A finish

Yesterday I finished the last of the knitted blankets for KOGO, and managed to get 4 blankets hemmed, they are just lengths of fleecy fabric ( Lincraft had a sale!!) with the cut edges hemmed, they make great blankets.
love the fleecy fabrics

here is the prince frog to kiss!! LOL!

and the knitted squares all together and ready to go. I delivered them to a pharmacy in Bacchus Marsh today, they have a truck that come to collect the blankets, beanies, scarves etc people have made then they go in to the city for sorting and distribution.
I just went out to check the dinner and noticed the kookaburra waiting on the bird feeder for dinner, they come now and then, this one didn't fly off when I put some mince onto the feeder, was very trusting.

Mmmmmm...what is for dinner??
A few minutes later the whole family is here! not such a good photo it is taken through the kitchen window.

Lazy Day

Why is it that some days I am fired up and can sew all day and get lots done and then I have other days when I just can not be bothered to do anything?? Today has been one of those days, not a lot done and now it is time to be getting dinner ready....oh well....yesterday was a better day, got at least a little done!!
i laid out the squares for a KOGO blanket and my assistant decided it was a wonderful place to have a snooze!! Wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't muddled the rows up! Lol! I guess that tells me I need to clear the table and not work from the floor!

Wednesday group challenge nearly done, just need to finish off the threads and sew the opening closed. Can show a whole photo after we have unveiling.

Halloween tablecloth nearly finished for Jenny, have to finish off threads and sew opening closed - there is a recurring theme here - not wanting to do the final things to get it finished!!! I would like some glow in the dark skeletons to hang on the corners - does anyone have any ideas where I could get them from please? Tried the local $2 shop but no joy there.

Another "bright" KOGO rug finished and ready to be delivered.

Next KOGO rug to be sewn along the long seams, then needs a crochet edge, there is another one lurking in a bag....to be done later on. This one isn't too bad most of the squares are of a similar size, the red ones just needed a bit of tweeking to fit.
I found an amazing hexagon quilt on facebook today

so far over 13,000 hexagons! But what an amazing quilt, it is like a Persian carpet!
and today is World Orangutan Day - the orangs at the Melbourne Zoo  had special fruit and plants today - was party day for them.

Saturday morning

just wanted to show the henna patterns this morning with the dried bits gone, you can see the pattern much better - tried the bend the fingers and stretch out the wrinkles again!! Lol!!

Henna painting

One of the lovely young girls at school had her hand henna'd last week and when I admired it she offered to do something on my hand this week
I haven't lost any fingers, just trying to stretch out the old wrinkly skin!!!! Lol! The dark stuff is the dried henna which will come off and the orange underneath will slowly darken, then go orange again and then fade away in about a week. I love the pattern she has used, have been walking around all afternoon holding my finger out stiff so as to not damage the henna! :-) Can't get it wet tonight so can't do the dishes....what a shame!!! Lol!!

Found

I found this photo on facebook of my youngest son having a good time overseas.....love it!! It is so Shane.

Yarn bombing 2

We went to the park this morning to a place where we had seen little white crochet hearts on a bridge.....but sadly they were gone, we had planned to add our flowers to the hearts,  but we decided to add some  decoration of our own anyway!!
Tania doing her magic and Ollie waiting patiently

some of our crochet flowers

playing in the park!!

Tania's crochet flower

part of our work....I think it needs some more....maybe next week.

I saw this tree in the city today, we drove past so didn't have the chance for a closer look, but it was bandaged from ground to tips of branches and flowers around the trunk

the message said "Toot for the tree" - maybe it is to be cut down? Kind of fitting with the yarn bombing that we have been doing.

I Spy Quilt

I managed to drag myself away from a book this afternoon to do the top row and the borders on the I Spy Quilt, then appliquéd cars on the border ...I was told recently the little boy it is being made for is a car fanatic....mmmmmmm...no cars in the blocks! Woops, had better remedy that.
it looks busy, but then it is an I Spy. Next step to sew on the cars...a little closer to being finished.

Yarn bombing

On our walks in the park we have noticed little crochet hearts attached to things, like the Tane Mahuta statue (or what is left of it - some idiot stole the head, twice, so we just have the base now)
this is too far away but the crochet heart is near the base

here!! So we thought we would add to the little heart,

my crochet flowers

Tania's crochet flowers

Tania doing some "bombing"

Ollie being an assistant!! Boy these humans do strange things to dogs - I am sure he is thinking, but he was very patient with us!!

me doing some "bombing" - looks better with some colour I think!!

again too far away..now we wait to see what happens...wonder if they will stay or be taken away?? Or added to......

Productive day

After spending much time pootling around looking at blogs and face book etc I finally got my act together and went and did some more rose bush pruning and wouldn't you know it I was out side 10 minutes and the sky went black and it poured!! So I waited until it passed and then continued for a while....then came inside and got cleaned up...went down the street and back.....spent more time on blogs, face book...when will I learn????? but then got organised and did some sewing...yay!!! And now I have another quilt top together.
all the blocks laid out ready to go

my quality controller resting ON the job!!! lol!

finished quilt top and I am very excited that most of the seams match up!!! Yay me!!

This succulent type plant lives near the kitchen and it has flowers - I think it is confused as it usually flowers in the spring and summer, but the flowers are beautiful!

the rose bush I am taming!! I realise now I should have planted it on the other side of the arch because when the howling north wind blows (howls) it blows the rose off the arch and onto the garden, so I cut it back and away it grows again until the next time. Ideally it should be moved to the other side but it is too big now for that, so I guess I will keep cutting back every couple of years. :-)

Not happy Jan!!

I have decided that gardening is a dangerous pastime - I know it has to be done and I chose to have the garden beds we have, but.....
was it really necessary for the climbing rose bush to whack me in the side  of the head???? Think I will stick to sewing in future!! Lol!!

Mmmmmmmm.....

How is it that I can sew over 60 charm squares to strips the right way and then do one the wrong way...where was my brain?????
right way

wrong way!!! Duh!! Now for some unsewing!! I think I was focusing to much on the Live Aid DVD I was playing and reliving the 80's! I can't believe the concert was in 1985!!

Sewing challenge for the month

Our challenge this month is a little quilt so today I had a look at The Missouri Star Quilt Company - Marg showed me this on Monday - they had a quilt called Falling or Tumbling Charms, so I thought I would have a go
I cut two and a half inch strips, and joined them to one side of the charms squares (chain pieced), then cut them back

then sewed those pieces on to another strip

and cut them apart

then laid out the blocks to see what they looked like and moved them around

pinned and sewed the blocks together

Ta da!! This is the end result - I am pleased with this my seams (mostly) meet  up!!

I have done two!! Yipee!!
