Grand day out (sorry photo heavy again!)

It has been a lovely day today after waking up at 4.30am because of a thunder storm! Not close but loud enough!! I went to a new sewing group today here at St Leonards and met some wonderful new ladies, one English and one Irish..the other two I had met a few weeks ago at the Bellarine Quilters meet up. We sat and sewed the morning away and then went to the pub for lunch...sadly the food for me was not that good, but the company was great. After lunch I wandered into Geelong to find the Geelong South train station to find out about trains to get into the city on Sunday...and guess what!!! No trains this weekend...so I shall be getting a bus instead!! That sorted I went in to Geelong and to the National Wool museum...as they have this wonderful exhibition on....
so I went for a wander....they had many NZ women mentioned plus a costume the woman would have worn at the time...I found it very emotional reading about them....hence the many photos!!
You can skip over this now if you want to...
love this dress..

...some very clever women...

I am not sure if this is readable but another amazing woman..

beautiful dress...

interesting washing line!!

love this beach north of Nelson in the South Island..

got to love this woman...she pioneered VD treatment and wrote and wrote a book on marriage and vd....considered scandalous by the military at the time..she was a wicked woman, but later the Army adopted her treatment...

this woman was part Maori and part pakeha and did a lot of good work towards the rehabilitation of  all soldiers during an dafter the war..

this was a beautiful dress...

a few of the poppies for this display....I can't remember now how many were asked for but they ended up with 4000...

love the poppy display..

and of course a Bollard...I love the bollard and I understand this was the creator of the bollards in Geelong....sadly now no longer with us....

and yes I did get some stitching done this morning...despite lots of chat.....the hexies are appliquéd onto the stitchery and I made another hexie flower ...quite a productive morning...
Happy sewing.

  4. Wow! I would love that place and their displays. The dresses are amazing. Did you note how tiny the women were? VD was the major problem in the military hospitals , more than other injuries. Very frustrating for the nurses having to spend so much time with those patients when others needed their time too. Lovely pics. And lovely hexies .
