this is the Victory, Admiral Nelsons flagship used in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 when the English beat the French and prevented Napoleon fron invading England..
this is the inside of the Mary Rose...the flag ship for Henry the Eighth....sunk by the French in the Solent...it is amazing the recovery that has been made...some of the ship was in the mud and preserved.....shoes have been found, pewter plates, a lot of the surgeons equipment, the skeleton of the ships dog, gold coins, arrown, cannon and cannon balls, there is a huge collection of things to look at...
you view the ship remains through windows and on your other side are some saved things to give you an idea of how the ship was set up. There were 500 people crammed on this ship and sadly only 35 survived. We had a great look around, had lunch in a cafe in an old warehouse and then headed home...

ReplyDeleteThat is amazing to think the ship has been preserved so well. An interesting bit of history. I had a few "dah" moments moments realising it was so easy for invasion over there with the countries being so close to each other. Had no idea. ( maybe that's why I flunked history at school.).
