City Wanderings

We took our lovely visitors from Germany into the city today to have a look around......we went in on the train, then got the City Circle train from the back of Etihad stadium (love the dragon!!)

to Federation Square where we went to the Info office. Edith loves art so they wandered off to the National Gallery, while hubby did the hobby and military book shops and I wandered along by the Yarra taking toy voyager photos and just enjoying the sights. I then took myself off to
here,

and indulged in a little
of this...

and took home these!! Very happy wanderer!!! Lol!!
We were waiting for our visitors when the thunder sounded
and then the heavens opened!! The more I look at this photo the more I can see the angry wind and rain man or maybe it is the thunder man in the clouds!!  Just above the station! We had to wait a good ten minutes for an easing in the weather to get across the road. We made it over to Flinders St Station and got the train from there to Southern Cross and then on to home! Not exactly the day we were expecting but a good day none the less.
Happy wandering.

FNSI

Well another Friday sewing has come and gone...I decided to get some work done on the hexies...actually it is my only sewing project at the moment as everything else is packed....
sorted and ready to sew...

It wasn't until I put a photo on the blog about this quilt that I realised this hexie is in completely the wrong place!!!!How could I have sewn it there and not realised...must have been chatting or really off with the pixies!!! So some unsewing started the evening...

the offending unit was reversed and put back the right way!! These are sewn in never to be undone so unsewing is a challenge!! I did some other hexies but then my finger got sore and The Sapphires came on tv, so I switched to the crochet...

and tidied up all the ends on the poppies and gave them a little green centre.
Very satisfying!!
Thank you Wendy for hosting the evening.....you can visit Wendy's blog and see what the other participants got up to on FNSI.
Happy sewing.

Charm Squares

I did a little stitching this afternoon and thankfully no unstitching...I have learnt to slow down and use the stiletto!!
Block number 5 for the Charm Square Sampler Quilt...not too many corners damaged in construction!!
I have also been over to look at Barb Smith's buttons.....boy that is fatal...I find it very hard to go and just look
these arrived in the mail yesterday...just love them!!
my first letter from A Month of Letters arrived yesterday too...exciting!!! And it was from NSW and a quilter!!! Great envelope!
I have also signed up for
You can join up too over at Wendy's she also has some very interesting recipes there for Friday night.
I am off to get dinner organised.

This and that

Today I finished the binding on an Aussie Hero quilt while sitting in bed...such luxury!! Then I did the label and it was ready to post..I had a job to get it in the box, but it eventually succumbed and is on it's way!
a few more poppies have been created trying different patterns
these are curly poppies!! Lol!!
Happy sewing.

Change of pace

Just for a change today from packing and sorting and deciding what to keep and what to do without, I decided to make the next block in the Charm Square Sampler Quilt, this is block number 4
I am happy with this one..not perfect but ok....I found getting some of the seams to stay together was tricky, but got out my stiletto tool and found that really helped.
Last Wednesday when we went down the street for our group meet up, the Gisborne Cemetery Group were in having their meeting......they asked us in as they were leaving and we got talking to Glenys one of the group, she has been busy making red poppies to go up to the cemetery on ANZAC Day......this year the 10th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing. She has found 181 WW1 graves/memorials up in the Gisborne cemetery, quite a lot I thought for a small town but it just reinforces to you how many men went over to fight in this war. Anyway Glenys needs more poppies made  so I started last night and hope to get some more made through the week.
Need some green centres and the endy bits tidied up and then they are done....I like the crochet ones as they are quick to make and you can play around with the pattern to make them larger or smaller.
Happy Valentines Day!

EPP

Over at Anthea's blog is a link up encouraging us to share and work on our EPP projects...I am not sure I will have something to update every week, but it is lovely of Anthea to put something like this up so we are encouraged to keep on going and can see what others are doing as well.
this is my project...has been on the go for years now....probably about 5 years...just do a bit now and then.....it is growing slowly in a higgledy piggledy fashion!! Lol!!

Last week I started these flowers, this week I hope to finish up all the little side bits, so they are complete.
You can see the other EPP creations over at Hibiscus Stitches.
Happy sewing.

Sunday

Well today the day dawned bright and sunny and got hot very quickly...one advantage was that we did all the bed linen washing and as one went out on the line the previous one came back in....boy it sure was hot!!
Work continued on
Just the binding to hand sew on the back and label to write....

I managed to complete the next block in the Charm Square Sampler..

Marg sorted buttons....the one she wants has to be here somewhere!!

Miss Tracee has the outside of her bag together.....then not long later.....
the front.......

and the back of the bag (and Tracee) are finished!, She is a cheeky girl!!

Tania had another sashing (?) attached to her little star.....

here is the nearly finished bag minus the model.....Tracee is going to add some other pieces to it..no doubt we will see the finished bag on her blog before too much longer.

And Marg has one Teddy face to be completed in her baby quilt...all in all a wonderful productive and happy weekend....many thanks to Marg for driving myself and Tania there and back and for having us to stay.
Happy sewing.
