Another week

has flown by. I have been quilting and making blocks this week, going to sewing group and going swimming, no wonder the days go by fast.

Anthology blocks for this week
We woke up Thursday morning to the noise of trucks and machinery

The beautiful big trees at the front gate of next door were going to be cut down. I know gum trees are bad for dropping branches and the far one dropped one a couple of months ago and took out part of the fence, but lots of birds live in there, I wonder where they will go.

One gone and onto the second one

This is what was left at the end of the first day of work, some galahs turned up not long before sunset and watched from the power lined over the road, some rainbow lorikeets came and sat on the ends of cut branches looking at what was left.

Meanwhile some Bridal sampler blocks were being made

Jack didn't visit this week thank goodness!

A little fruity number!

Friday morning the big remaining tree came down, then they went down the back of the house and cut down the last remaining big gum on the block.

This week I have quilted and bound two of Fiona's quilt tops

this was a big one, the photo does not do the colours justice

and here are the last blocks for the Schoolgirl Sampler, waiting to be sewn together.
Today I went into Geelong to see and exhibition by Rone a local man who is a well know street artist. We went to see his paintings on the old Geelong cement works a few years back, sadly they have been pulled down and are no longer there.
His art was on display at the Geelong Art Gallery, one area was set up as an old disused mansion with very haunting music being played by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra,

This was a recreation of a work Rone did in an old inner Melbourne city house before it was demolished

Part of the display, lovely old teddy. Well worth a look at this exhibition.
I think it might be G & T time, might even read a bit, I am reading a book about Doc Halliday back in the Wild West, it is really good so far.
Happy stitching.

  1. Your sewing is fabulous, as always, but I was very sad to see those beautiful trees being cut down. The Rone exhibition looks good. Enjoy your weekend, hugs, Valerie

  2. Oh, I love reading books on the American Wild West! Such a shame those trees are no more. I didn't realise you were so close to the ocean; what a fabulous view you have. Goodness, the Rone exhibition looks amazing. Those portraits are clever. And as for all the blocks you have stitched this week, ALL are amazing!

  4. Your blocks all look great & so different Sue - you get to work on alot of really different mediums & must never be bored. I'll bet it seems strange looking out now to see no gum trees. I saw that exhibition on your Ig page but did not know the story behind it - gosh what amazing work & a wonderful way they have displayed it. I well remember travelling from Kilmore into the city on the train well away from the Highway & seeing all the amazing Street Art on old buildings etc.

  5. You are well organised with your sampler blocks. It is great to be able to move around with freedom again and see exhibitions. There is cerainly more open space without the trees.....will it give you more sun?

  6. You have done heaps again... thsoe blocks take a bit of time I know so well done with getting them all done and also finishing off the quilts - woohoo... I am always sad seeing trees chopped down.. it won't be long and you will forget they were there... it has opened up the view nicely... poor galahs sitting on the line watching their favourite chattering place come down! Great exhibition to go and see.. it amazes me how artists get such results on a big scale like that...

  7. You've created lots of lovely blocks this week. Won't be long before you're putting quilts together and deciding on how to quilt them.

It is sad when trees have to get chopped down. Hopefully council plant some new ones to replace these ones.

That exhibit looks interesting. Sad that the original art work had to be demolished.

  8. So sad when trees go and not just for the birds but all the insects and beetles that made it their home too. Lots of lovely blocks and nice work on Fiona's quilts. xx

  9. It’s sad to see such beautiful trees cut down, but I suppose you have to be careful about them falling. The art exhibition sounds interesting. I heard about his work in the old house.

  10. Sue - it pains me so much to see these majestic trees cut down.

Rone - a fascinating artist - did all of his work feature women's faces?

  11. Sad about the trees but necessary. The cockies especially love sitting in big gums as well as kookaburras. Maybe they will roost in your trees? So many lovely blocks you have done and the 2 quilts are lovely. Well done!
