I have been getting in a little sewing,
This quilt top is finished, it is 60 ins x 60 ins, so perfect for an oncology quilt. I read the pattern, noted there were five and a half inch squares used in the centre, grabbed a charm pack and sewed them together. Made the star parts and them wondered why the star parts didn't fit to the centre!! Duh, five and a half inch squares required. not 5 inches! So after a bit of math I added a small border, added the star parts and the top is finished! Next time I will read and digest the instructions!!
Hank has been visiting for 3 days, it is next to impossible to get a photo of him as he is always on the move, if he is not moving, he is wagging his tail and the front end still moves! We had a good time with him and he enjoyed his many walks along the beach.
Some time has been spent here, reading, watching the world go by and the occasional dip.
Two days ago I had the urge to do a mosaic, I had broken crockery and an urn in the garden, I am not sure working on a curved object is the best but the pieces have dried into place, so all good so far.
Some reading has been happening over the past few days too.
Yesterday and today I started sewing this quilt top and once again did not read the instructions properly. The instructions said to sew the black squares on diagonal corners, which I did, but it also said as per the picture. I just picked up the blocks as they came along and so can not get the whole quilt with the fabric running horizontal and then diagonal. So I decided on just getting the black squares and triangles to meet up......mmmm.......didn't learn much from above did I!!
this is how it should look.
Ah well, I will know for next time. This quilt top takes 20 strips of a jelly roll, and I have a few I have been given that are that size, so another might be tried soon.
The southerly breeze has picked up here so it is pleasant to have the doors and windows open once again. Another super hot day (for us) is forecast for tomorrow and then a cool change in the late afternoon. We might even get some rain!! Fingers crossed.
I am off now to get those blocks sewn together.
Happy stitching.
Hahaha!!! pleased I'm not the only one who isn't good at reading instructions...
ReplyDeleteThe mosaic is looking good..
Lovely time to relax with a good book and at the beach.
Fabulous quilting. Hmm, reading instructions is sometimes hard, I know that, too!! But you did a fantastic job. Love the other mosaic work you are doing too. Hank looks very happy. Enjoy your day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI don't see any problems with the Woven Ribbons quilt top. Seriously it looks lovely. Good thinking and saving of the Star Quilt top.The colors are in complete harmony. I am sure that it will make a beautiful and comforting oncology quilt. Wishing you and yours a very happy new year.
ReplyDeleteooops….. good save on the star and the ribbons look fine.... no one would know that the lines face the 'wrong' way. I bet Hank had a great time there.... All the best for 2020....

HA ha To much rushing and we think we know better than having to read a pattern
ReplyDeleteI was trying to put a border on a block yesterday and it was just to long "so the pattern must be wrong" No it wasn't wrong I was trying to put it on the side instead of the top Durrr Must learn to read the pattern Not look at the picture
Any way yours looks good
The colours are beautiful like the ocean! It’s wonderful regardless of pattern ‘misreading’...you were just enthusiastic!🥰
ReplyDeleteI think there are two blocks you could swap on the woven ribbons and have it more like the pattern in the book., the 2nd and 4th on the far right row as I look at it. Yes, the top two would still be reversed from the bottom two, so the center wouldn't be right, but on the other hand, no one is likely to notice that if all four blocks are two and two in directions. =) I actually like the star better with the skinny border around it. Great tops, both of them!
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are lovely despite the problems. I guess when one has been making quilts for so long we no longer panic and just figure out away way around it. After all, as I say to myself many times, it is " patch" work. Lots of reading there. Hope NYE isn't too noisy there.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are having a rather pleasant time at the moment. So, you didn't quite follow the patterns..... now your quilts are bespoke. If you don't tell anyone about the placement on the last quilt, they will never notice. Enjoy your down time and have a Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHank looks adorable even when he is blurry! I smiled at your feet at the beach - because I spent a couple of hours this afternoon walking in a snow storm! Happy 2020 to you!
