This has been a week

of reading book,. finishing up quilts, foundation paper piecing, english paper piecing and wandering along the beach

I walked along the beach at Indented Head last week

the remains of the old paddle steamer are still visible and much used by the birds.

The name on one of the beach huts, which translates to the House

I passed the Little free library the other day and was saddened to read the note on the door, someone had been taking books and selling them online, so not what the idea is about!

Two oncology quilts are finished.

I have finished this book, in a flood of tears I might add, (happy ones!) It was a great read, love story, WW2 story, family story. story of love and loss and of a child with problems, well worth reading if you can.

I have finished another Old Time Kaleidoscope block, two more to go!! Yay!!

I have prepared next weeks Sylvia's Bridal Sampler block, with a lot of help from Jill here at St Leonards, Jill is the applique queen and showed me how to do these blocks a different way to in the book.

Jill also came over Friday afternoon for a foundation paper piecing lesson, she made the flying geese, I am not sure I have converted her to the joys of fpp 👩

Another 5 hearts have joined the family, I didn't realise I have used the same fabric two strips in a row until I took the photo!

One of this weeks Sylvia's blocks

and a second, I couldn't believe I hadn't already made this one, it was not ticked in the index or in the book, but when I put it away I found another in the box! I need to improve my recording system.

The first of this weeks Anthology blocks

And the second. These are coming along quite well, but it is going to be a very long term project.
We had some heavy rain and cold weather this week, up in Gisborne where we used to live they had snow! We lived in Gisborne for 20 years and saw snow once.
We have had days like this, cloudy and wet

a beautiful flower spike come up from the bulb

and days like this, a little warmer and sunnier.
I am off for a cuppa.
Happy stitching.

  1. Your blocks are all looking really pretty. Sad to read about people taking books from the community library and selling them online. How rude!

  2. LOL such a funny name "Indented Head". Shame about the books but it doesn't surprise me. There is always someone wanting to stuff up a good thing. So many lovely blocks finished. You should be quite proud of yourself achieving so much. Fantastic being able to stitch with someone. Restrictions here have been lightened from tomorrow but no home visitors still and the 5 km radius still applies.

  3. Thanks for sharing the lovely beach photos, loved the wreckage. How long has it been there?. And you have got loads of quilting done, wow, I can't believe how much you manage in a week. My clivia is starting to bud again, so I hope the cold we have now doesn't kill it off. And reading is always good. I have listened to lots of audio books lately, as I can listen while I do some crafting. Have a great, new week, stay safe! Hugs, Valerie

  6. I so love your header picture. The little hearts in the middle are so adorable. Amazing job! I also love the other picture of OTK. I'm not good with FPP either. Like Jill, I much prefer EPP. You made good progress in your projects. We have little free library like that too in my area. Never thought someone could stoop so low. One every crowd I guess. Enjoy! ;^)

  11. Hi Sue. I love all your new blocks - you sure do get to work on such a variety of things. That is a shame that folk are taking books & selling them online - so sad how some folk just spoil things for everyone. That orange flower looks like a clivia ... I have some growing down the end of my section.

  15. Sounds like a perfect week, and sad that someone is abusing the library system. As Julie said, I think that flower is a Clivia, I have some in my garden. Your Kaleidescope block looks fantastic.

  16. The weather has been a real mixed bag lately. Snow around here too last weekend and mid 20s forecast for the end of this week. You did well to get your walks in when you did. It’s been quite a busy week on the sewing front for you, with such a variety of projects. No chance of getting bored.

  17. Your English paper piecing block is just so exquisite! I love the way you fussy cut the striped fabric. It must be a bit fiddly to get right when hand piecing.

  18. Whew sounds like a busy week when I read the first sentence. First up, oh sad news about the book swap library...that is so low. You are making great progress on all your blocks, I hope the new applique method works for you?
