I find it is an interesting thing (but of no importance) that when we go away for one night, just one, as we are coming home we both say it has felt like ages since we left home and it was just yesterday!!
So yesterday we drove to the other side of Melbourne to Mount Evelyn, near the Dandenongs for a wedding. The traffic was heavy, there was road works....need I say more! Thank goodness we were aiming for the motel first before heading to the wedding. We got to the wedding in plenty of time, caught up with the father of the groom who we had not seen for a few years, then the groom who we had not seen for even longer and then the grooms sister who is now married and has two children. The grooms Mum arrived a bit later and we were all happy to have a catch up.
Groom, Greg, Dad, grooms sister, Christine and Mum Myuki.
I was taking photos from a distance so some are not so good. Hubby worked with Jim, the father of the groom) when they both worked at Kodak many years ago.
The ceremony was outside under the trees
Bride and groom.
I tried to get a few outside photos
The brides family
Bride and groom with her Mum and Dad
Bride and groom with the grooms parents. Myuki looked beautiful in her kimono.
Then followed a Chinese tea ceremony
tea was presented from both the bride and groom to the brides grandmother, she then presented them and red and gold envelope, I assume containing money.
Then the brides parents
and the grooms parents.
It was a lovely thing to see and nice to see traditions being observed.
Start of the speeches
And the cutting of the cake. The bride, Winnie, looks stunning in her beautiful dress, her bridesmaid joked everyone in the family expected her to turn up in shorts and a t shirt as that is her usual attire! We had great food, good music and everyone enjoyed themselves.
We retired after the bridal waltz as the general dancing was starting up, hubby does not do dancing!
This morning on our way home we stopped in at a place called Schwerkolt Cottage, near Ringwood.
This was the venue of our wedding back in 1984, the old settlers house is still there, the garden is different and more buildings have been added around it plus a museum
the garden beds have changed here from 1984 which is no surprise! We stood over in the shadowed area, at that time there was a large flower bed.
the cottage is a lovely old building.
So that was our nostalgia wallow for the day!
Back home now and back to reality, I am a bit tired this afternoon so am not sure whether I will read a book or do some stitching, or just snooze!
Happy stitching.
A lovely venue for the wedding and how nice to see the blending of the two cultures.

ReplyDeleteSue - I found this particularly interesting since our daughter and her fiance are busy planning their wedding, which is also an outdoor venue. So glad to see traditions being respected!!! I can relate to your comment about time - recently I spent two nights away from home and it felt like a week! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place to have a wedding. Love that the traditions were honoured. Fabulous you revisited your wedding venue. My husband and I returned to our wedding venue years later and it had changed into a funeral home. =)
ReplyDeletethe wedding looks lovely.......
ReplyDeleteI missed this post, Sue. It looks like a lovely wedding. Nice to see the traditions observed and interesting to see aspects of another culture. Cool that you were able to visit your own wedding venue! I'm afraid ours is nothing of note - I've driven past it many times with barely noticing it!
