ANZAC day

A day of remembering and respecting those who have served and those who are still serving today.
My Dad and his friends
My Uncle, on the right.
Lest we forget.

ANZAC Day

I have been at home today, keeping out of the rain for the morning and watching the parade in Melbourne on the TV

these planes flew over the Air Force part of the march, and not long after flew over the house here.

The walk up to the Shrine of Remembrance

family members are in that group somewhere, the last group in the parade, who were stopped on their way up the concourse as it was time for the service to start..

No 2 son behind and to the right of the camera reflection, hubby's cousin Kerry and Aunt Lobby,

hubby and his aunt...not such good photos when you are taking them from the TV and the subject is moving!!

bagpipe band following them up.

View up to the Shrine.

I have finished the sewing and the crochet edge on this KOGO blanket,

and the hand stitching of the binding on this quilt, from the Guild, for the Children's hospital,

and this KOGO blanket has been stitched and the crochet edge is now being done. Good activity for a wet and rainy day, while listening to an audio book.
I have to go and peel veges for a roast for tonight, so had better head off to the kitchen!!
Happy stitching.

Change of pace

Just for a change today from packing and sorting and deciding what to keep and what to do without, I decided to make the next block in the Charm Square Sampler Quilt, this is block number 4
I am happy with this one..not perfect but ok....I found getting some of the seams to stay together was tricky, but got out my stiletto tool and found that really helped.
Last Wednesday when we went down the street for our group meet up, the Gisborne Cemetery Group were in having their meeting......they asked us in as they were leaving and we got talking to Glenys one of the group, she has been busy making red poppies to go up to the cemetery on ANZAC Day......this year the 10th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing. She has found 181 WW1 graves/memorials up in the Gisborne cemetery, quite a lot I thought for a small town but it just reinforces to you how many men went over to fight in this war. Anyway Glenys needs more poppies made  so I started last night and hope to get some more made through the week.
Need some green centres and the endy bits tidied up and then they are done....I like the crochet ones as they are quick to make and you can play around with the pattern to make them larger or smaller.
Happy Valentines Day!

ANZAC Day March

I went into the city today to watch the march along St Kilda Road, I was just opposite the Arts Centre so had a great view. I found it very emotional watching some of the old diggers determined to march even though they were frail and bent....I felt so proud of them.
Here we go!

Love the bagpipes! Must be my Scottish blood!!

This vehicle was stopped in front of me for a while, when they had to start up again the driver couldn't get the truck in to gear, the passengers thought that was hilarious! They eventually got going to a big cheer from the crowd!

Some great cars here today!

Love the Light Horse!
Lest we Forget!

And a quick call into Spotlight on the way home for some fabric for the Aussie Hero Quilts.

5000 poppies

Today I found this when I was looking around...people making poppies either crochet, knitting or felting...they are going to be displayed at Fed. Square for Remembrance Day this year and then on ANZAC Day in 2015 (That is the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC Day). Think I might have to get out the needles and wool and participate in this one!
Don't they look amazing? Gives you itchy fingers doesn't it!!!
Happy sewing!
