Monday mayhem.

Today dawned bright and calm...I eased into the day with a cuppa and then the builders arrived.....so I headed off with Adam and Jen to walk the dogs...was lovely down the beach this morning. Soon after our return I headed off to the Bellarine Quilters sewing day and had a wonderful day.....I got some sewing done
..block number 8 on the CSSQ...only one more to go...that is exciting!!!

and this is the beginnings of a quilt.....a friend of Chookyblue...lives in Dungog...her blog is Jewells ...and she has asked for quilts to go to people in her town who lost things in the recent floods. She would like to give the 20 residents in the old peoples home a quilt each, as their rooms were flooded to the ceiling. You can read about it on her blog......anyway last time at the Bellarine group we were offered fabric someone no longer wanted so I grabbed the purple and the butterfly print...perfect for this project and sensational timing!!! Now I have to square it up and put a border on...have to see what fabric is left over.
This beautiful quilt was in for show and tell today....loved the fabric and quilting...

here is a scrap quilt in production....
no other show and tell that I caught up with...
Just for a change of pace, last Saturday we went in to the city to watch rugby with some friends....Melbourne Rebels vs Chiefs...of course I was cheering for the Chiefs as they come from near where I do....

sadly they lost by one point...but at least I spotted Sonny Bill Williams....I have to confess he had to be pointed out to me!!!! It was interesting to watch a game again as I hadn't seen one for ages.
Well had better head off now and get some dinner sorted...not much fun trying to cook in the cold shed, but hopefully not for much longer!
Happy sewing.

Final sewing

Today, while skilfully avoiding packing and cleaning, I have sewn my last block at this house...
This was taken yesterday, morning sky looking a bit angry.......

the finished block, which sadly, does not look like block 6 below!!!!

somehow I have reversed something!!

So after some unsewing and double checking...I sewed again....

and finished the block...I have taken the photo on a different side of the block, I was looking at it thinking it was still wrong, but all is ok!! Phew!!

last few days in this house.....

I will miss living here...although I am looking forward to living by the beach!

My sewing desk has never been so empty looking!!!
Ah well life moves on and another phase begins.
Life is as it should be.

Change of pace

Just for a change today from packing and sorting and deciding what to keep and what to do without, I decided to make the next block in the Charm Square Sampler Quilt, this is block number 4
I am happy with this one..not perfect but ok....I found getting some of the seams to stay together was tricky, but got out my stiletto tool and found that really helped.
Last Wednesday when we went down the street for our group meet up, the Gisborne Cemetery Group were in having their meeting......they asked us in as they were leaving and we got talking to Glenys one of the group, she has been busy making red poppies to go up to the cemetery on ANZAC Day......this year the 10th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing. She has found 181 WW1 graves/memorials up in the Gisborne cemetery, quite a lot I thought for a small town but it just reinforces to you how many men went over to fight in this war. Anyway Glenys needs more poppies made  so I started last night and hope to get some more made through the week.
Need some green centres and the endy bits tidied up and then they are done....I like the crochet ones as they are quick to make and you can play around with the pattern to make them larger or smaller.
Happy Valentines Day!

Very enjoyable day

Well today has been a day of sewing, and I have to confess some unsewing.....the half square triangles were a challenge for me but the block is finished...only a few points were damaged in the making of...hee hee!!
I am quite happy with this, even with a few points being out of whack......I had a lovely afternoon, a group of us went to Donna's place for an afternoon of stitching, conversation, tea/coffee and snacks...
there was an unusual vapour trail over Donna's house today....

one of Donna's friends, Jean, is making this stunning quilt...isn't it beautiful??

Marg was working on another needle turn appliqué..how cute is that?? She does a beautiful job...

here are the late stayers...hee hee,  no not really we just didn't get a photo earlier when the other two ladies were there!

a very generous lovely friend (Donna) gave me these goodies (late Xmas pressie)...things she found in Malaysia and that could not be left behind!! Love them, thank you Donna!

I managed to get 4 hexie flowers started today....need to sew the sides together now....very  happy with the batik colours...

and this morning I finished another stitchery...needs an iron, then it will get some trimming and sashing.....so it has been a very enjoyable day, some finishes, beginnings and wonderful company.
Happy sewing.

FNSI

This Friday is the first Friday Night Sew In for 2015....zip over to Wendy's and sign up.....lots of time to prepare the food and drink, and to decide on what you would like to sew....Wendy would like this to be the biggest sign up ever so how about joining in??
I have started on my Charm Square Sampler Quilt...you can link up with Shannon at Modern Traditional Quilts if you would like to be tempted to make this quilt....
Half square triangles under way.....more to do, might be my Friday night job.
Happy sewing.

Getting things done

Today I was up and busy packing boxes at 8am...oh the joys of having an early rising DH!! But having said that it is amazing how much you can fit in to the day when you get up at a reasonable time!! After packing a few  boxes I ventured outside and did a little gardening and pruning of the roses....much easier to keep looking good if I go and do a little weeding every few days.  I spent many hours at the kitchen table cutting fabric for the Secret Shirt Challenge...shhhhh...can't say too much but...
you can find out about the Secret Shirt Challenge here at Tracee's blog.....can't say any more...secret shirt stuff!!
I have also received fabric in the mail for the CSSQ
love the batiks....now I have to draw a diagonal line of each one ready to make the half square triangles....
I was packing up some tins...I have several my mother used to send us with a fruit cake in at Christmas time...and found these
I think the boys are probably too old for these now ....lol!!  So they have gone......
hasn't it been a beautiful day today?? A bit windy here but beautiful sky and sunshine...the garden is looking good, unusual for this time of the year...by now it is usually dry and suffering. I have a treat in store tonight...I am off to have a sit and sew with Marg and Tracee, this evening Tania was supposed to be joining us too, but she isn't feeling too good today so is staying home. We will catch up with her next week.
Happy sewing.

Oh I nearly forgot...I have finished two Christmas decorations!! Yay!!
