Quilt In

Last Saturday was the annual Quilt In for the Geelong Patchwork and Quilters Guild, a good day was had by all. The speaker was Chris Serong , she talked about her quilting and showed us many of her beautiful quilts

here are a few, most are hand pieced, a couple are foundation pieced

on the right is a coverlet bought in the US and on the left the version hand pieced in 18 months by Chris Serong....just beautiful.

There was an amazing sky when the Supervisor and I went walking yesterday morning.

 The Snowball and Nine patch is finally finished and checked by the Supervisor, who will not pose but will happily walk thru a photo!!

and the back using a sarong from Bali and left over batik pieces.

and another hexie diamond is done, I am happy with how they are growing.

I am off on holidays with Donna tomorrow, we are heading for Alaska and Canada, and as WiFi will be hit and miss I am not sure when the next update will happen.

But we will be enjoying ourselves.

Today

the snowball and nine patch came back from the quilters, so I am sewing on the binding

Today I also finished one hexie diamond, am quite happy how it turned out

I have just had a look at the photo and realised I have sewed one  entre hexie in the wrong place!! Aghhhhh!! Not sure I want to unpick all the tiny stitching..I will have to think on it.

Off to sew the binding now

Exhibition part 2

The traditional quilts on display were made by Margaret Mew, she has studied 19th C quilts and loves that style, she has made her version of quilts that are in museums..

this  one looked so different in real life! In the photo you can see every piece of fabric

this beautiful quilt was made by a group in Kilmore I think, the front was done by hand and under every block there was an embroidered name. On the back was a plan of the quilt and information about every name mentioned in the quilt, it was very moving.

this looked amazing in real life but didn't come up so well in the photo, but it really appealed to me.

This afternoon

the snowball and nine patch and

clamshells were allowed out of a box so I could measure them for backing and wadding...you can see the backing has happened, but the wadding is still rolled up in the plastic bag.....I had better go and do it, otherwise we have to walk around the edges of the room until I do!! Of course the supervisor thinks they are laid out especially for him to walk on!!

A finish...woo hoo!!

I have been sewing away this afternoon and managed to get the Snowball and Nine Patch quilt finished. (Well the quilt top!!)  This was started back at a class at the Guild on Sunday April 10th 2016!! Hey I might get it finished in a year if I am lucky!!

I am very happy as this has been made entirely from my stash, no new fabric was bought. Next job is to plan the quilting.

I have been working away on the Christmas stitchery bit by bit,

I am all over the place, doing a bit here and a bit there, but I am enjoying it. Hopefully a good press later on will straighten it up.

I have been enjoying sewing with the rain beating down on the roof!! Such a great sound.

Off to write a letter now.

I have been

on a quilting retreat up at Woodend

this was the house we stayed in, it used to be on the edge of the township, well it still is but the town has grown and the paddocks down the road are now being built on.

Every one was  very busy

Carleen has remade this quilt and over the first couple of days on retreat got to this stage

then the placement of the next border was worked out, this border will hang over the side of the bed so the heads had to be the right way up

I was working away on the Celestial Stars blocks....

there are some seams not quite right but there were many seams to match and after several unpicks they were as they were!!

by Tuesday I had had enough of foundation piecing!!!

so I continued working on the snowball and nine patch blocks...yep more seams to match up!!!! And yes I was unsewing, I managed to sew the squares on the wrong way!!!

but I eventually got them done and the side pieces

here are all the pieces n the wall along side  a quilt top Judy put together in a day.....love that pattern, Judy's that is.

Barb finished her beautiful foundation pieced quilt using scraps, there is another border to go on I think

Sue has had her quilt quilted and trimmed it all ready for binding...this quilt was her first, she was told it was an easy first quilt to do,it didn't prove to be so and has taken a long time to get finished.

My quilt top is all together ready for the borders.

Tracey has been working away on these blocks, they take two pieces from a layer cake, a plain and a coloured, sewn together and then cut re arranged and resewn...this is from the Missouri Star company, we had a look at the tutorial on line...the look of the quilt top changes depending on how you arrange them

this way gives a different look.

I had a great time away, wonderful company, lots of laughs and some sewing. It was wonderful to have a visit from Tracee, Margaret and Donna, we had a good dinner and evening at one of the local pubs.

Back home today I have begun work on an Aussie Hero quilt

for some reason blogger wants this photo to go sideways....this is as far as I have managed to get today......had better get back and try to work out what goes in the gaps. I was very lucky as Glenn Robbins has signed the blocks for this quilt, the recipient asked for a quilt featuring Russell Coight a charachter played by Glenn Robbins in his show Great Aussie Adventures.

Word photo challenge

it is that time again for the photo challenge, the word for last week was BLACK...I tried to take a photo with the camera lens on, thought that would be good but the camera wouldn't cooperate! Lol!! So when we were out yesterday I decided on this photo for BLACK

well technically not black now that I look at the photo...but they were BLACK storm clouds coming overhead. I am linking up over at alshasspace for this photo challenge...wonder what the other BLACK photos will be??

Meet Jasper.

We went to visit friends yesterday and this is their dog...he is a Havanese from Cuba.

he is so cute and soft to touch and loves cheese!!!

Today I managed to finish all the snowball blocks..now on to the 9 patches!!

and maybe the iron as well!!
