Exhibition

This past week has been super busy with driving back and forth to West Geelong, takes me about 45 minutes depending on the traffic, calling at the Guild storage unit, the printers and post office. I tried to help set up a slide show and failed until one of the Guild members mentioned her hubby was out having a walk to fill in time, so he came in and helped and all was good, slide show up and working!
I have taken a few photos, we have been told not to put photos of others quilts on social media, but the quilts will be on line when the newsletter is published so I am just getting in a little early with a sneak peek.

two general views

My Doing the Rounds

and the Nosy Neighbour applique

another general view, I have just realised as I go through the photos I didn't take a photo of the International Sisters! I will do that tomorrow. I like that the black sheets were not put up this year where the big quilts are, it seems much lighter and you get all kind of interesting views through the exhibition.

Back home one more star has been finished

today I have been in and out of the sewing room, the Supervisor is confused, when will she stay in one place he is thinking!!

I have sewn the binding onto a quilt that is going to the SJOG hospital while listening to the Bee Gees.

At the last Guild meeting we had the Go Cutter out so I had a play with a few fabrics and cut some birds, yesterday I found some fine braid which I have sewn onto the background and then ironed the birds in place. The yellow looking birds are actually orange. I need to cut a few more birds so this project will go back on the shelf for a while.
I have another quilt to bind so had better make a move and get it started, the afternoon is getting away on me!
Happy stitching.

Woo hoo!! Two finishes.

I am pleased to say the Aussie hero quilt is finished, label done, letter written and it is all boxed up ready to got o the PO tomorrow! I have also added eyes to the turtles since this photo!!

I rode my bike down to sewing this morning, it was cold but a beautiful clear day.

Doing the Rounds is finished...well nearly, the binding is done! The hanging sleeve is awaiting some hand sewing and the label is still not done, but I am calling it finished .
Last night two more sisters were created, I was in a rush so made some silly mistakes and unsewing had to be done, but they are ok now, two New Zealand sisters.
I am off to tidy the kitchen bench before dinner cooking starts.
Happy stitching.

Out and about

Yesterday when part of the family were visiting we went for a drive looking for photos take, and of course I had to sneak in a geocache!!
We stopped at the end of Swan Bay Road, off they go into the soggy beach area

The birds all took of fairly quickly!

This pelican was grooming off in the distance

Something of interest out there.

Now we are in Point Lonsdale, we climbed up a path to the top of the sand hills, yep there was a cache up there...I didn't get a photo of the ocean as I was too busy searching and by the time I found it the (big) kids had had enough!!

We went down to the jetty, there were huge clouds appearing over the horizon, luckily no rain!

The light house is a working light house.
Today I have been into Geelong for the car to have a service, me to do some messages and then home.
The turtles are together, just waiting to be positioned on the quilt.

I have finally sewn the binding on the Doing the Rounds Quilt, after a gentle nudge from Leeanne, I am happy to say I have even started the hand sewing!!

Just a little reminder of the beautiful quilting Leeanne has done on the quilt.
Off to sort some dinner now.
Happy stitching.

Exciting news

My Doing the Rounds quilt was delivered back to me yesterday by Raewyn.
Leeanne of Quiltmekiwi did the quilting for me and it was  a huge challenge as I had stretched the curved seams. Luckily after starching and rearranging the quilt Leeanne was able to do the quilting.

These are photos Leeanne sent me, I have not taken any yet . Isn't the quilting stunning?? I am so happy with how it has turned out, Leeanne is just a magician!!
I am keen to get the binding on now.
One very happy camper here.
Thank you so much Leeanne.

Changed my mind

After seeing a finished beautiful Doing the Rounds quilt on Instagram with circles on the flowers I have changed my mind (again) and decided to do the same.

Some still look a little wonky but I now think it finishes them off better and I can still see my progress along the way. It is now definitely finished.I have sewn together the backing and ironed both pieces, it is ready to go and visit Leeanne at Quiltmekiwi for some magic.

Yesterday I put together a little baby quilt, it is going to hubbys cousin who has just become a great grandmother, she will forward it on to the babies mother.

Hubby woke me with a cuppa this morning and this was the beautiful sky!

A FINISH!!!

Woohoo!! I have finished the Doing the Rounds quilt!! The extra bit of red fabric arrived yesterday from Shiralee Stitches, I made the last two hexies last night and sewed them on. This has been my project since January!! Now it is finished.
One happy dance here!!

Thanks to Sandy at Shiralee Stitches for doing the BOM and providing support and extra bits of fabric when I lost them!! And to Susan Reinhard of Thimblestitch for designing and making  the wonderful pattern.
One happy camper here.
Now to have a chat with Leeanne of Quiltmekiwi to see about quilting! Exciting!!
Happy stitching.

Remembrance Day

Yesterday we went to the Remembrance Day service at Drysdale, it is the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1. 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918.

Crosses were placed to remember people from local families who served.

5000 poppies were made for this banner, the purple ones are for prisoners of war.

there was a short march, with both the Australian and New Zealand flag, the NZ flag carried by a Kiwi who was in the Australian navy.

Many different hats and berets to be seen

Many beautiful wreathe were laid on the cenotaph, plus names and photos of local men who served and did not return. There was also one woman, I assume she was a nurse, although nothing was said about her. The cenotaph was surrounded with pots of handmade poppies.

poppies were growing in the big raised garden beds outside the adult ed centre.
It was a good opportunity to reflect on those who have served the country and given us the life we enjoy today.

the last petal of the last flower has begun!!

a few more stars have been finished.

I have had these little fabric packs for ages, I decided Saturday afternoon to sew them together, I am not sure why as I have plenty of other things to be doing!!

I finished two, I think I will border them and then decide what to do from there.
I was packed and ready for sit and sew at Portarlington today and then realised it is the wrong day, so I had better go and unpack, take my library books back to the library bus and then get sewing.

Thursday

Another catch up once again!
I took Eve to the Mill Market on Sunday
Eve searched for cards and I sat in the car and sewed, I had planned to sew petals onto Doing the Rounds, but left the petals at home! So I did some stars instead, and the photo I took is on the phone, no idea how to get it to here!
Monday was a home day
This wasjig puzzle has kept us busy over the last four days and I am still trying to finish it.
We had some super heavy rain Tuesday morning...I hope it carried on to the drought affected areas!

Yesterday I went into Geelong and went thru a really heavy rain shower on the way home, this was the road going down to our place after the rain has stopped.

We  had a beautiful rainbow later in the day

Today we have a beautiful morning, the Supervisor and I enjoyed our wander.

Progress on Doing the Rounds

Sandy from Shiralee Stitches is kindly sending me a little more red for the hexies I have missed doing. I have decided not to put circles over the petals as I can see my progress as I have sewn along.

These stars have been finished over the last few days. I have run out of prepared stars so need to cut some more..another job for today!
Had better go and do some sewing.
Happy stitching.
