AQC 2

Some more photos of the beautiful quilts at the Quilt Show
This quilt was beautiful, so much to look at

The Reef, with a bleached section

Just loved this one!

this crooked photo is the challenge quilt by Susan de Vanny, we saw photos of this at the class we did with Sue a few weeks ago..so great to see she won. The quilt came from her combining two photos and doing some rearranging.

Beautiful birds

These quilts came from the US and were the Cherrywood Van Gogh Challenge, they had to interpret his Stary Night..the blues seen together were stunning.

Loved this guy, the quilting created the effect of his scales and the colours were wonderful.
and this was Obama..the background quilting was the American flag, the face was created using dark brown spots.
I hope you enjoyed a small view of the amazing quilts on show.
Happy stitching.

Today I have been into the city on the train, which is good as sitting in the train gives you sewing time!!
Circles and one star I finished on the train trip today.
I met Donna at the Exhibition Centre and off we went.
There were so many beautiful quilts to look at today...will do a few today and more tomorrow I think
love this approach to the Exhibition buildings thru the park

Love the fabrics and the hexies here

this fantasy bird was made with raw edge quilting after the pieces had been glued on, the organza along the bottom of the quilt creates a reflection in the water.

Cats, cats and more cats!

Loved this for the shapes and quilting and colours

Aren't these quilts just beautiful?

and the quilting here is amazing!

Loved this quilt showing a bit of Tibet ( I think), maybe Northern India where the Dalai Lama now lives..

and this one was in India, the quilting is beautiful

and the beads for the water just stunning

the Dalai Lama was in the previous quilt

the decorations on these ladies was beautiful too.
After I left Donna, I wandered about the park behind the Museum and found two geocaches.
the park here is beautiful. love the big old trees
once the caches were found I walked back to Southern Cross Station...4 km and it took me just over 48 mins. I was pretty tired once I got to the train station and happy to sit on the train!!
Must fire up for FNWF now...well maybe after dinner!!
Are you asleep now??
Happy stitching.

Today hubby and I ventured into the city by train..no problems from this end it was a good trip. I got the tram up to Spring St and then walked. I was hoping to see some of the War Quilts that Fiona has been sharing with us on  her blog. I couldn't find them anywhere and when I asked one of the info ladies she said they had been at the show last year!! Bummer!!! The powers that be had not updated the web site properly, I was not the only person who had asked for their location...so Fiona you were right, the quilts can not be in two places at the same time!!!
But I enjoyed the quilts on display and ran into Shez, Barb and Ann,  so it was a pleasure to see some familiar faces. Photos were allowed for private use, so here we go!!
Just loved this one, kangaroo in Aussie fabrics

with a butterfly nose!!How cute is that??

these are both beautiful!

this was HUGE!! Loved the colours!

this was from an 11 meter quilt made by a NZ quilter, she made one block a day in her 60th year, I liked this saying.

the info about her and the quilt

part of the quilt

one walk way in the quilt display

a variation on the good old clamshells, beautifully made

this is blurry I am sorry, taken in a hurry between bodies!!An amazing pixilated quilt, taken from a photo of an adopted child from Africa.

another quilt made one block each day for a year

I do not fully understand how it was made but the explanation is here.

this one is all done by hand, and over time using fabric scraps

I could have taken so many more photos, but restrained myself!! It was a great show to go and look at.  I did have a look at the traders but it was very crowded and after begin told by one woman I had touched the pattern she was going to buy I decided to call it a day.

The back of the Exhibition Buildings, it is an amazing building, inside and out.

and the trees in the park next to the building...just starting to drop their leaves.
The train trip home was long as someone on the train in front of us was an unruly passenger and had to be removed by the police. We sat in Footscray station for ages and were 30 mins late getting into Geelong, then we had to get off our train and wait for the next one to get to Geelong South. But all was good I had some stitching so the time passed fairly quickly The Supervisor was waiting for us when we got home so I took him on a walk to the beach.

a little different weather that yesterday.  But the cobwebs got blown away!
Hubby has dinner sorted and the pizza has arrived so I am off to eat while it is hot.
Have a great weekend.

AQC

Boy I have had a busy weekend...feel the need to lounge about in bed this morning!! But the Bellarine Quilt group sewing day is on today so I had better get organised for that. Saturday night hubby and I went off the the Gateway Hotel to see the McClymont Sisters....hubby under sufferance I might add!!! I loved the music but found it VERY loud....my ears were ringing for the rest of the night...hubby disappeared off to the pokies, mostly to get a seat as he cannot stand for over an hour but partly to avoid the music...actually he said it sounded better in the pokie room, so maybe we should have just gone there!!!!
Yesterday I was up early and at The Geelong South train station at 7.45...no trains this weekend so got on the bus...was in the city by 9.10 and up at the Exhibition buildings by 9.30. The weather was a little better by then...was 6 deg C when I left home and there was heavy rain on and off.
love this building. ..

and the gardens....

some blue sky is coming...
Some of the beautiful quilts on display...

Love this one, hand stitched and spray painted...

......hexies!!!! And a beautiful bee....in the True Blue display....

...loved this little blue wren....

and this quilt....

made from this book.......

look at the cute dogs here....amazing quilting too....

...part of the wonderful ANZAC display....
I got to meet the wonderful Molli Sparkles..he is an amazing quilter from Sydeny, who organised the hash tag blocks..you can read about his appeal here...he and a large team of volunteers have made over 14 quilts for the families affected by the Sydney siege....he is in talks with the NSW govt about presentation  of the quilts and a positive memorial being out together with photos of the quilts and the cards and letters left at the site...he is a wonderful positive person...I came away from our brief meetup feeling very happy!! I had been 'sparkled'!!

this was the Bernina workshop area....here for $5.00 you could make a laundry bag for Aussie Hero Quilts...Bernina then added another $5 for each one made....they have been amazing supportive of Aussie Hero Quilts at this show...

....here are Jan-Maree...founder of Aussie Hero's, and her side kick Caroline ...

..got distracted by the inside of the building....

need to practise the art of a selfie...Lol!!...Jan-Maree and me!

Caroline....and yours truly....

this was the machine Bernina donated for the raffle...a one off design...the lady who won it was over the moon....

Mr Bernina.....Gary or Greg...I can't remember his name now and Jan-Maree drawing the raffle....I had a great day really enjoyed talking to people about Aussie hero's...met lots of lovely quilters and non quilters and caught up with the wonderful Elyte, Ann, Annie and Robyn....you never know who you are going to see at a quilt show!!
Happy sewing!
