FNWF results

Friday Night with Friends has come and gone, my night didn't go quite as planned but I managed some sewing and got the binding onto the Circle quilt.
It has been checked over by the Supervisor

I machine sewed front and back.

I also made a pincushion - Ingrid gave me the cute chooky to put over a boiled egg, but as I don't eat boiled eggs and it seemed a shame to put it in the pantry, I decided to make a pincushion! Win win! Makes me smile every time I look at it!
I had better go and check the chook that is roasting.
Have a wonderful weekend.
PS you can see what the other FNWF'ers got up to by visiting Cheryll our lovely host. Many thanks for a great sewing evening Cheryll.

FNWF

Tonight is the first Friday of the month and therefore Friday Night with Friends, a night of virtual sewing hosted by Cheryll at Gone Stitchin'. Sign up and join in the fun tonight.
Yesterday I spent time cutting and prepping
This mess is my sewing desk and binding I am putting together for the circle quilt.

five inch squares for another project.

Blocks ready for International Sisters blocks, fabric from Karen, NZ and Bali.

Special fabric sent to me from the lovely Karen of KaHolly . We are both making the International Sisters blocks so Karen sent me some fabric she has used in her blocks so I can have a Karen Sister block and I have sent Kiwi and Aussie fabric for Karen to use in her blocks. Isn't that beautiful bird fabric!!

I rode my bike to the post office this morning, the sun came out for a while and then went behind the clouds

On the way back two pelicans were grooming near the boat ramp.
I have to get y skates on, hubby has a specialist appt and I am the designated driver!
Bye for now.

Wandering about

Today I had to go into Geelong so thought I would have  a wander at Easten beach and look at a few of the bollards again
Miss Geelong bollards, two of the four, two have had graffiti scrawled on them,, so sad to see.

Looking along Eastern Beach

Miss Geelong 1937, very glamorous!!

Ulysses Motor cycle club member, front

back.

Picnic lunch for the car enthusiasts.

Life saving club members

Dad and helper! Or brother and annoying little sister!!

Heading back to the car, lovely to be seeing some sunshine.

Yesterday two more Sisters joined the family, this time with Canadian fabric from Donna.

And today I picked up the Circle quilt from Joan, of Faraway Quilting she has done an amazing job with the quilting. This quilt will go to the Oncology ward at the St John of God Hospital in Geelong.
The backing is a flannel sheet, so the quilt is beautifully soft.
I am linking up with Soma at Whims and Fancies for her Wandering Camera post.

Time to sort some dinner.
Happy days.

I am happy

to say the circles are all joined together. I think I need to add a border to keep them all contained, they are a pretty loud lot!!
Hee hee putting it near the runner did not help at all!

The last couple of days I have been working on the sewing caddy that was the hand out for last years Scrub Stitching...I didn't get to go but Chooky kindly sent me the project. I thought it was time to get it done. The applique of the EPP is done and I am currently stitching the stitchery. It has only taken me a year to get to cut the fabric....way too long. Not to worry I am on the way now.
I am off now to create labels for raffle tickets for the Bellarine Quilters.
No rest for the wicked!

Catching up again

Last Thursday I spent a happy few hours in the sewing room cutting and making One Block Wednesday blocks, I got to the end of what was cut only to find one little square left over, mmmmm

then I went thru the blocks, this one is obviously not right!! So a little unsewing had to happen and then all was right!

Finished 12 blocks.

We have been down to the beach most afternoons this week as it has been so hot, it is a pleasure to get into the water.

Looking for a snack maybe?

Yesterday we went to visit friends of Davids, they all worked together at his last job, the house we went to was on the flight path for the airshow, but sadly I was too slow to get any photos other than this one!! We heard the planes, but couldn't see them, then would see them way off in the distance. It must have been incredibly hot for those people at the airshow, I heard the temp got up to 40 Deg C.

I got into the pool for a swim, the guys sat on the side and chatted. The dog wanted to swim but would not jump into the pool!

Just down the road from where we visited was a bird sanctuary, this emu was pacing along the fence line, the poor thing looked very hot.

And back to Friday, I decided to get out my circles and sew them together, I have circles everywhere!
Now I need to cut some fabric for a stitchery, hang out the washing, and a list of many other things, but I might just go down to the beach!
Happy stitching.

This and that

A little progress was made with the hexies

some circles were appliqued on last night, these are the last of what I had prepared so need to cut some more.
Today hubby and I went for a drive into Geelong and out the other side
to have a look at the art on the silos at the Old Geelong Cement works, they are painted by a local artist Rone,
from an interview by Rone,

The work consists of three silos each painted with a large-scale portrait of local individuals, Corinna Eccles, Cor Horsten and Kelly Cartwright.

Corinna works for the Traditional Owner Corporation, Wadawurrung Aboriginal Corporation and is a direct descendent of Queen Mary of the Wadawurrung. Cor is a former cement works employee having worked at the site for 35 years, and athlete Kelly Cartwright won two medals at the London 2012 Paralympics and represented Australia at Beijing 2008 Paralympics. “Corrina helps pay homage to our First Peoples, and Cor to our industrial history. Kelly demonstrates the hard work and resilience required to overcome disability to reach her potential – particularly relevant as Geelong shores-up it’s positioning as a centre of disability service excellence,” Rone explains.
The silos are painted on the back so you have to park the car and walk along a track to the other side, but it is well worth the walk.

this was the view from the silos over the valley, lots of development and new housing going in there.
Off to sort more hexies.
Happy sewing.

AQC

Today I have been into the city on the train, which is good as sitting in the train gives you sewing time!!
Circles and one star I finished on the train trip today.
I met Donna at the Exhibition Centre and off we went.
There were so many beautiful quilts to look at today...will do a few today and more tomorrow I think
love this approach to the Exhibition buildings thru the park

Love the fabrics and the hexies here

this fantasy bird was made with raw edge quilting after the pieces had been glued on, the organza along the bottom of the quilt creates a reflection in the water.

Cats, cats and more cats!

Loved this for the shapes and quilting and colours

Aren't these quilts just beautiful?

and the quilting here is amazing!

Loved this quilt showing a bit of Tibet ( I think), maybe Northern India where the Dalai Lama now lives..

and this one was in India, the quilting is beautiful

and the beads for the water just stunning

the Dalai Lama was in the previous quilt

the decorations on these ladies was beautiful too.
After I left Donna, I wandered about the park behind the Museum and found two geocaches.
the park here is beautiful. love the big old trees
once the caches were found I walked back to Southern Cross Station...4 km and it took me just over 48 mins. I was pretty tired once I got to the train station and happy to sit on the train!!
Must fire up for FNWF now...well maybe after dinner!!
Are you asleep now??
Happy stitching.
