A visit and a helper

Last week Ingrid came to stay for a few  days, we set up our sewing machines on the dining table and sewed and chatted in the day and did hand sewing in the evening (and chatted 😉)

I finished the foundation pieced heart blocks and am now joining them into rows

Last blocks made

Laying them out to check for colour placement, I don't think it really matters with these blocks!

Quality inspector came to check things out

and from a different angle, we did some ball throwing and everyone was happy!
First three rows joined together.
I joined my two pieces of the cropped diamond shapes, Ingrid was not happy with my ironing skills, so she sorted them for me.
We found a tool to save burning fingers

the back had interesting texture

you can see the difference the ironing made. Thank you Ingrid!!
The postie was very kind to me today, delivering three treats
a lovely stitched decoration from Michelle

a book mark from Maria

and a post card from Raewyn. This one took 5 DAYS Raewyn, unlike the 5 weeks mine took to get to you! I hope to go and visit that beach one day.
Thank you lovely ladies your thoughtfulness made my day.
I think that is all from me for now, tomorrow is hubbies birthday so we are off to Queenscliff to catch the ferry to Sorrento, then we are being met by hubbies sister and bro- in- law and we are off of the pub for lunch. It should be a good day.
Happy stitching.

School Girl Sampler

is finished! Yay! I made myself stay on project and not be distracted by the squirrel that was chatting in my ear, I eventually drowned it out with an audio book

I just hope the last border sits flat when it is quilted as I had problems sewing it on.
Hubby gave me a shout last night to come and look at the moon
The photos do not do it justice, the colour was beautiful and it looked huge. Was so good to see it before it disappeared into the cloud.
Last night while the football was on, I went to the sewing room and pulled out the much neglected foundation paper pieced hearts and made another five. Slowly getting there with this project!
It is a cold a overcast day today, I think some rain might be coming. Perfect afternoon to be in the sewing room.
Happy stitching.

This week

has seen more block making, some quilting and some prep for another quilt. I was given 24 quilts for the oncology ward so I have been sewing labels on them in the evening.

This is the Sylvia block from two weeks ago but I don't think I recorded it finished

This weeks Anthology block is called Bars.

I made another Storm at Sea block, 5 made 11 to go!

I made two fpp heart blocks this week, this is how they finish

They look so much better once trimmed.

Sylvia's Sampler block this week is Clay's Choice.

The cat quilt is finished and will be going to its new owner Monday.

I have been making EPP kite blocks into hearts, I saw on Instagram that a lady pinned hers all down to wadding and backing and then sewed a row of zig zag, I thought that was a good idea, so that is what I am trying. It took all afternoon to iron and starch the hearts and take the papers out. The rows are pinned and the zig zag has started, just one row so far. Hopefully it works! Got to try anyway!!
The hexies are coming along well, I have 5 more to join onto the outer edge and then some big flowers to make to become the next row. I have used a lot of the hexies I had left over so now it is onto making new ones.
Off to do another row of zig zag!
Happy stitching.

Another week

has zipped on by! I didn't think I had completed a lot this week but looking at the photos has changed my mind!

This weeks Anthology block, Love Letter

This weeks Sylvia's Bridal Sampler block, orange peel, which is going to get a little circle as the points do not meet nicely.

Two more heart blocks made foundation paper piecing method

Another Storm at Sea block

More little stars, good for in front of the tv sewing

An Aussie Hero quilt, the request was for stars in the sky, palm trees and a curling wave, there will be bonus sea creatures too!! The side blocks I made with the foundation paper piecing method.

And on the weekend I made two postcards to surprise a friends letter box and her! She loves snail mail, so that is what is coming.
The quilt has now been layered and pinned out the front in the windy weather!

I had a very enjoyable walk down along the beach this morning before it got too windy

Interesting fishing spot!
Right I am off to start some quilting.
Happy stitching.

Spring

has appeared in the garden, the blossom is coming out

the Weeping Flowering gum is flowering

The plum tree has blossom

the lavender has bees and blossom despite hubby's pruning attempts!!

I made a few Flying Geese last week
then as football was on went and made a few more after dinner

I passed this fairy establishment on my walk recently

We have had fine days

and not so fine days, typical spring weather. We had beautiful weather Friday, and Saturday so I spent time in the garden pruning and weeding, tiring but gives you a good feeling when you can see what you have done.

Yesterday I made some Kevin Koala's, might have to come up with some other names, Keith, Kobber, Kel, I need to think on that! Can't be calling them Kevin's all the time. This is a Wendy Gratz pattern from Happy Shiney People, I love Wendy's patterns,  they are so happy.

The quilts are finished and ready for delivery.

A few more hearts were sewn together last night

I nearly forgot last weeks Anthology block, I ended up making two. Double Spot above

and facets. I don't seem to have a photo f the Sylvia block so will fix that later. I am off to sew some details on to the Kevin blocks.
Happy stitching.
