Out and about day 2

Today we went off down the coast heading for Robe

We arrived just as the sun broke through the clouds....

Such beautiful colours in the water...

Was very windy today....

the sea was surging in...

we drove along the coast and found the rock with the hole in it......we had seen it on postcards.....

then we found Maud's on the Hillside......such a wonderful surprise....

just look at all the lovely things....

more here.....the we had to carry on our way....sadly....

and we came to Beachport......and had just a glimpse of the sun before the rain shower came in from the sea....

and the view from the lighthouse....rain is coming....we were very good tourists and drove along the Bowman Scenic Drive...

this was the track...now more of a ladder to Salmon Hole....

coming back along the scenic drive we had a look at the Blowhole...lots of huge waves surging but we couldn't see any blowhole......so we headed off for a cuppa....and headed back to Kingston...we were watching the sun lowering in the sky as we drove along....wondered if we would see any sunset .....

and we did.....it was spectacular!!

What a wonderful way to end a great day out......such a beautiful part of Australia.....well worth exploring!!

Shopping while travelling around

We went to find a quilt shop in Mount Gambier and walked up and down...couldn't find it anywhere....finally realised we were a block the wrong direction, so retraced our steps and there it was and round the back was a op shop so both Eve and I were happy...

These are the goodies I got...blogger is insisting the photo turns sideways!!!

Then today on our way out of Robe we drove past a patchwork sign....so another 'youie' was executed and back we went. This was at a ladies house and called Maud's on the Hilltop....was a beautiful shop, much fabric, many patterns and lots of stitchery cottons patterns ideas.....was hard not to buy one of most things! !

My haul!!! Love the tin shaped like a jandal (thong in Aussie!!) Both of these shops had lovely friendly ladies working in them and obviously loved stitching and sewing.

Off to stroke my new goodies now.

Travelling here and there..warning photo heavy!!

Eve and I have been on the road yesterday and today, stopping here and there, reversing up when something looked interesting,  doing a u turn when we missed something and decided we had to go back and have another look..

These paintings were on a bus shelter in Smythsdale.....aren't they amazing???? There must be a very clever artist in the area.

This was the gate to a large property near Wycliffe.....Eve had a postcard of it so we did a 'youie' and back we went to have a look......was down a very red dirt road...we couldn't see anything from the road but I liked the gates. ....

next stop Dunkeld at the top end of the Grampians.....boy it was cold here....

We stayed I overnight at Mount Gambia and this morning had a look at the sink  hole garden, 

the limestone has worn away over the years and in the 1800's a garden was created down here...much cooler down below than up on top

off then to the info centre to find out what we should be looking at...this ship, was built by unemployed youth.....it is the same size as the one that came out from the UK...imagine travelling all that distance on such a small ship!!!!

next stop was the Blue Lake and as we got there as the sun came out, the lake really looked blue.....

Next stop was Penola...this is a beautiful old town with many limestone buildings,

and tiny houses built in the 1800's

this one is now a bric a brac shop

this one you can have as a holiday let....

this, would you believe is the bedroom for the mother and father and 14 children.......

and this was the original house,  but once the children came along this became the kitchen and front room (lounge room)

and out the back is a huge vege and fruit garden and herb garden.....there are bags and scissors supplied so you can pick your own herbs...how good is that??

This evening we are in Kingston in the shade of the big lobster!!!! I can show you that tomorrow!! I was going to do some stitching but think I might read and the go to bed, I hope for a good nights sleep.

Sewing Sunday

I have had a productive day today...I think the overcast weather makes me more likely to sew...I would rather sit and read outside if it is sunny

..some interesting clouds happening here this morning ......

I made a zipper pouch this morning....read the instructions twice, measured, sewed and cut...and then realised I had done it the wrong way!!! Oh dear....oh well instead of a pouch that sits up and makes it easy to look inside I have one that wont!! Lol!! At least I got the fabric the right way up I suppose!!

I also made block 7 for the Charm Square Sampler Quilt...only two more to go....then comes the serious stuff....gulp!!

I have launched into another Aussie Hero quilt, the request was for blue, green, yellow, meditation and beach...I snuck some yellow on the sides.....and am planning to do lots of free range quilting along the black lines....fingers crossed it is liked.....

.....the supervisor, of course is near by for when he is needed!! I used the outdoor table to make the sandwich today and got it finished just before the rain started!

I am off to Eve's place tomorrow afternoon and then we head for Mount Gambier....then on to Kingston and the big lobster!! A few days of tiki touring around.

FNWF and the weekend

This FNWF I managed to get nearly all this blanket sewn together...it is the time of the year to begin blanket sewing  for KOGO....I came home to a box of squares/rectangles to be sewn together

Adam and Jen came and stayed a couple of nights, it was wonderful to see them, we chatted, walked the dogs - Jen has recently adopted a 12mth old Labrador...Tasha...ate and generally relaxed....

cleaning up the cutting board ready for Scrabble....Adam has damaged his ankle at soccer....hence the crutches.....off for a scan on Friday....

Have a look at this...Adam and Jen gave me this for Easter.....I had to have a taste right away.....white chocolate, meringue and raspberry.....so YUM!!!!

Home again

I have had a lovely two days tripping around the country side, on Tuesday I went up to Gisborne...was a bit of a strange day...first the supervisor chased the car down the street with hubby running along behind......he had decided he was coming too thank you very much...he was not pleased being taken back to the house!!! Then it was foggy on and off all the way to Geelong...makes for tiring driving.....but soon all settled down and I picked up Tania and off we went (was a bit of a tiki tour...I think I took the most circuitous route possible lol!!) to Craigeburn....where we presented ourselves at Marina's house....and there we had a wonderful day of feasting and stitching

Robyn is busy working...Elyte is putting the world to rights with Marina's Mum...check out the amazing lunch we had!!

I stayed overnight with Tania, then headed off to Marg's the next morning.....we met the hairdresser there...she had the tough job of making me beautiful for the next 6 weeks....nothing like a challenge!! Lol!! I didn't take any photos on Wednesday..not like me at all....but I had a great evening at the Gisborne Quilting group....Donna took some photos so they will appear on the blog at some stage...today I had to take the car for a service so spent the 2 hours waiting stitching hexies....then it was off to St Leonard's with a grocery stop in Drysdale...and guess who was happy to see me????

he is happily lying on my foot as I sit here!!! So I am off to organise some dinner now and then am going to find some sewing/knitting something to participate in FNWF
