I am normally a very patient person but working on this centre star for Betty's Medallion the pieces very nearly ended up in the bin! I think there was a print error as the instructions say to cut the light coloured squares 2 1/2" but the instructions say to sew in a 2 5/8' square. We got over that one but then I didn't understand the illustrations for adding the triangles
and ended up with bits that did not join together. After a few blue words and lots of un picking I got it back together
not perfect, the centre is not aligned and there is a bit of a gap but I am calling it finished!! No doubt I will go back and try to fix it at some stage.
Some happy mail was dropped at the front door by the postie today, this one must have had a few days rest at biosecurity control!
This photo is out of order but it is what I ordered from Shiny Happy World early in December.
These panels are so cute, they are for cushion covers but I think I will make them into a quilt.
This was what was in the mailing bag before I opened it.
Second happy mail was from a pen pal in the US, I got the best penpal award for 2020 😁 kindly made and sent by Laura. How cute are the little mice!
I haven't done much today as it is very hot today, a sewing friend came for a visit and a cuppa and a chat and the rest of the day I have been reading this book, which is now finished. Large print makes for a quick read!
I had better be off and see to dinner, hubby is watching footie highlights 😢 (again) so that needs to be changed quick smart!!
Happy stitching.
Very frustrating when the pattern is wrong. Love the animal panels..they will make a lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat star looks tricky, well done on getting it finished! Nice things in your happy mail, too, have fun! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteDon’t you hate it when a block won’t play. Good on you for sticking with it. Lots of lovely happy mail. Much better than those ones that arrive in a window envelope.
ReplyDeletePretty fabric on your blocks..... Hope you can get them together easier
ReplyDeleteOh I feel your frustration at that block. It looks good now. Cute panels.
ReplyDeleteGreat perseverance with that star medallion.... and lovely mail ... the panels are gorgeous... and a star too!!
ReplyDeleteI saw it was a hot day.... yucky when it's like that...
Hugz
Wow! In that first pic, I thought that the blocks were 3D! How easily the eye can be fooled. The star turned out beautifully and I must tell you, replays of the Richmond Tigers are on 24/7 at my house!
ReplyDeleteGood job in hanging in there.....I find it very frustrating when things don't go together as they should! Lovely mail to cheer your day Sue x
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your star gave you such aggravation. I too would walk away and come back when the emotions had a chance to simmer down. I don't like Y-seams so Kudos to you for doing this star. Lovely parcel. Congratulations on the award. ;^)
ReplyDeleteUgh, yes, I think it should have started at 2-5/8, with those set in corners, but I'm glad you worked it all out. The block looks like a lovely headache. LOL The little aniimals are cute, and will no doubt not be so much of a headache. Biosecurity - whoa, that sounds serious! =)
ReplyDeleteWell done with the star block - that sounds very difficult, especially when the instructions are playing up. Wonderful mail, great award! and I do admire the Shiny Happy World designs too.
ReplyDeleteGosh Sue your centre star looks tricky but I think yours turned out wonderful. If I was trying something like that I would have to put a button or a suffolk puff over to hide the centre - mine would be so far off!!! I love all your snail mail Sue. xx
ReplyDeleteMakes it hard when the instructions are not correct. Great work. What was the book like
ReplyDeleteSo annoying when things dont work out like they should! Glad you persevered. xx
ReplyDeleteOh no, not the football again??!! =) I did smile at the package with the ominous labelling, especially when one sees what lay within. Those cute animals will indeed look fabulous stitched into a quilt. I hate it when a pattern is wrong...but your patience in figuring it out has resulted in a great block. It looks like a tricky block to me.
ReplyDeleteDon't ya just "hate" it when instructions aren't correct....soooo very frustrating...
ReplyDeleteHope your eye and ankle are all better now too...xox
Sue - well done to persevere!!! It doesn't help when the directions are wrong!!! I am not very good at visualizing things - it always helps me to see things demonstrated!!! I like the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteSuch happy surprises in the mail I am sure you had a smile on your face all day long :-) The Y-seams can be tricky - UGH. Looks like you won the battle :-)
ReplyDeleteGood on you for sticking with the block..does look very tricky.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the cute animals and lovely surprise from your pen pal..
Looks like a nice book..
I have no idea how you create that block! Looks good, but very difficult!
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating that block is. It looks ok so I wouldn't stress too much. Love those cute animal panels. Enjoy your mail.
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention I have a few of that author's books which I thoroughly enjoyed. Haven't read tgat one though.
ReplyDeleteGosh that block looks complicated, well done on getting it done.
