Grand Day Out and FNWF

This phrase has been stuck in my head all day...
and it was not as grand as these guys above had!!
Hubby and I headed  up to an area between the Melbourne airport and Greenvale (a northern suburb). In that area is Woodlands Historic Park and at least 100 caches. So I persuaded hubby to come with me, we had an hour and half drive there and back but it was a grand day out!We managed to find 13 caches, had a picnic lunch and it didn't rain!! Bonus!!
hubby making minor repairs

Yes he can fit into the hole in the tree, while being careful not to fall into the big hole dug inside the base of the tree.

we disturbed a few of the locals.
Tonight is FNWF a time to sew along with other like minded people, hosted by Cheryll , you can still sign up over at Gone Stitchin'.
Hope to see you there.
I nearly forgot, I finally finished the dinosaur quilt last night, after a long time waiting to be quilted it is finally done
I think this one will go to the Bellarine Quilters for their collection for a kids camp next year.
Happy sewing.

Link up and catch up

This week is zipping on by!! I am linking up with Anthea at Hibiscus Stitches to celebrate all things EPP - mu contribution this week is a bit poor but EPP none the less
I have done a bit more than this, but I was working on this one on Tuesday, but more talking happened than stitching! Still every little bit helps!
If you go over to Antheas blog you can see what else is happening with EPP.
I have signed up to do another two Aussie hero quilts, one with dinosaurs - how good is that timing!! I must have known something when I bought the panel in NZ!! I have it ready to be sandwiched
It is not a very good photo I am sorry, it will go to the service persons son on his return home, the son is 4 and loves dinosaurs. Hubby returned home this afternoon and asked why I had emu feet all over the top of the quilt.....I suggested he could go away for a few more days!!
The second request is for a Minions quilt, I have a panel with Minions, so I am adding blue to the sides and top and then appliqueing

these guys around the sides. This quilt will also go to the son of a service person. Minions always make me feel happy!
We had rain this morning but this afternoon is beautiful.
Yesterday the Supervisor and I had a walk along the beach
I should have taken the lead off first, we both ended up with wet feet!!
At St Leonards sewing group this morning Mary showed her progress with her Japanese quilt, this has been sewn and unpicked a few times so it is good to see the progress now.
This afternoon I put the binding on a Quilt for Others from the Seachange group

now it needs the hand sewing and label sewn on and it cango in the ready for distribution bin.
I have also traced off another 6 blocks ready to be painted, might do some more painting in the morning, will see how we go.
Happy sewing.

Saturday

Today was a bits and pieces day...this morning I finished the top of the dinosaur quilt
I am happy with how it turned out.
This afternoon I went into Geelong...the storm was coming through at the same time, I could see the lightening as I was driving.

Luckily I got to the parking building just as the rain started, but not so luckily I needed to walk a bit to get to the Gordon Gallery, but I had an umbrella I was given years ago as a joke, it is small (meant for a child) green and has frog eyes on the top and a big smile!! Well it was all I had so I had to use it.  Must say it made several people smile and a small child asked their father for one!! Lol!! I got very wet in spite of the umbrella!!

I went to the Artisans of Geelong to see the tram lady hanging, there were signs everywhere saying no photos, so after asking if I could take one of my own work I was told to be sneaky...so sneaky I was!! The display was good, this is the first year it has been done, hopefully it will grow in the coming years.

The rain had stopped when I came out but there were lots of puddles...this is the Geelong library building, and the Art Gallery, love how the mirrored library windows make the building less invasive.

I thought I might catch up to the storm on the way home..it was slowly moving towards Melbourne

Impressive clouds.

When I got home I worked on the quilting  on the fabric mosaic of the boys, is just straight lines with a kind of zig zag stitch.
Still have quite a bit to go, I have to go back and iron now and them as some of the little bits keep on dropping off!! Cheeky bits!!
Had better go and rescue my dinner from the oven!!
Is raining outside again, sounds good on the roof.
Happy weekend.

FNWF

I had a lovely time sewing away last night,  I got all but the last two borders done on the dinosaur quilt before I had to succumb to tiredness!!
Hopefully I can get this quilt top finished today. As I write this

the Supervisor has made himself comfortable after waking me up!!
To see what the other FNWF'ers got up to hop over to Cheryll's blog.
Thank you Cheryll for organising our virtual sewing evening.
Have a happy weekend.

Today the Aussie hero laundry bag
and quilt

were packed in their boxes ,

the Supervisor kept watch from the shade

Mary came over for and we sorted out the backing for the quilt she has made , she bought what she was advised was enough to buy, but it turned out to be not wide enough. So we did some trimming and pinning and stitching

and it was all finished and ready to go to the quilters in next to no time.

the hoop thingies are up on the wall with bits and bobs in them

and I have just cut some dinosaur fabric I found at the Bellarine Quilt shop ,on sale!! I know I have other things I should be doing, but here I go on another project!! I think it will make a wonderful boys quilt.
I had better go and sort dinner I guess!!
Happy sewing.
