And a weekend away.
I got squirreled last night and ended up sewing some of the filler green sections together for Tea and Cake
Next will be to sew them into the right places, I have found the pattern hard to follow, so have to sit and read carefully and make a pencil mark for each hexie I have put in place.
We are having a weekend away this weekend and are staying at Euroa, we went for a drive down to the town this afternoon to look at the War Memorial, it was sad but interesting reading about the young men who went off to war.
This memorial, was created in 2018. The reason we are here is because David found a person with the same name as him on the memorial, he died aged 19 in WW1, so we are looking about for any info on him we can find.
There are many beautiful old buildings here
The old Post Office
This building was built in 1901.
The old flour mill build and operated from 1879, it was owned at one stage by Palmer's, it was eventually closed in 1917. It was one of Euroa's early large industries.
The Euroa butter and ice factory, built in 1901, is now a hotel and wedding venue.
We cut our look around short because of the thunder storm and are now back at the motel. Might do some stitching now I think.
Happy Stitching.
That’s a nice pile of green hexie….
ReplyDeleteNice to get away for a bit…. Did you find anymore info on the chap?
Enjoy your weekend, be sure to take lots of photos and share them with us! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteA lovely place for a weekend away. We had a quick overnighted there once. Beautiful buildings. We’d like to go back and spend more time there. I hope you get to do some more exploring before you go home.
ReplyDeleteLovely deep green hexagons you worked on--I have just begun a new hexie project...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really lovely town to visit for the weekend. How interesting for your husband to have found a soldier with his same name. We pass the sign to Euroa when we drive down to visit with my in-laws in Melbourne, but have never diverted off the hwy. One day...
ReplyDeleteIt’s nice to explore some of our older towns.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that young man my be a relative? Lovely little place to visit. I always feel a deep sense of sadness at the memorials.... so many lives and how often several from the same family....
ReplyDeleteHugz
Looks like a nice getaway. I enjoy seeing old, historic buildings.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your trip. I love the old buildings. Keep safe.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend away looks great, even if the weather wasn’t wonderful.
ReplyDeleteInteresting visit Sue - some of those old buildings are beautiful. Enjoy the rest of your trip. xx
ReplyDeleteYour hexies are just perfect! I love their look but I've never attempted to make any.
ReplyDeleteEuroa looks like a lovely place to visit. Looks like you had a great weekend.
Some lovely old building there. It is always interesting to read about their history and former lives.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rain cleared for you on Sunday so that you could enjoy your day. I wonder if David was able to find out any more info about his namesake? It does look like a really interesting town to visit. Good you managed to get some stitching done, even though you were travelling - and a squirrel was visiting too - very fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an interesting, if wet weekend away.
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend went well...
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to have a small get away...xox
Sue - the architecture is amazing. I am pleased they have maintained these old buildings and re-purposed some of them! Sometimes rain is annoying when you are trying to enjoy a new place, but stitchers always find a way to make the most of it!
ReplyDeleteSome lovely buildings there. It's been a long time since I've been to Euroa.
ReplyDeletelovely getaway! thanks for the tour of such beautiful old buildings
