Squirrel day

I know I should be focusing on one thing and getting it finished but my brain keeps on thinking of other things, but this is what has been happening here
I had a wonderful care package from the lovely Julie, hubby has been told NOT to eat the chocs wrapped in gold, they are white chocolate and are MINE!! Thank you Julie for thinking of me and spoiling me!

I also received this postcard from an Aussie Hero letting me know he received and loves his quilt, he was a bit worried as he received the box of goodies two weeks before the quilt arrived, he was getting concerned the quilt was lost, but all was good. Nothing like a Happy Camel to make your day!!

All my little half square triangles are trimmed
a pile of trimmings makes me feel very virtuous!! Sad isn't it!! Might go and put these in one of the bird boxes outside.

This lovely book arrived n the mail, another challenge between Ingrid and myself. I am going to be very busy!!

Second lay out for the half square triangles, I forgot to take a photo of the first, for that one I was two HST's short and decided not to make any more. Enough already!

So with the left overs I laid out this

The with the last few had a play and managed to get some around the wrong way but at least they went together ok.

Little one sewn together, comes out at 5 and a half inches.

Big one sewn together, with a couple of woopsies but it is staying as it is.

Ingrid reminded me it was time for our Caroline Challenge, I got  the days muddled and then sewed the half square triangles together the wrong way...did I look at the picture first...No! So some unsewing happened

getting my act together

and finished..not exact but I am happy, it was nearly 10pm by this time and I was getting vert tired.

We had a weather change yesterday afternoon, thunder, lightning and heavy rain.

Happy mail earlier in the week from Ingrid.

Quilting and binding done, two mini quilts and a pincushion!

I had a wander down the garden yesterday and saw there were more ripe figs, so another kilo is made into fig and ginger jam.
Every time I go looking for charm squares this packet of Japanese fabrics falls on the floor, so it got sewn into strips and then I added the strips of fortune cookie fabric, I think now I need a strip of black all around to contain all the colour as it is a VERY LOUD and busy quilt centre and the next fabric I have to put on is also very busy. Using what is in the stash with this.
I think it might be time for lunch now and then back for more being a squirrel.
Keep safe
Happy stitching.

Beautiful sunny day

We are having a beautiful day here today, not cold like yesterday, lovely sunshine and a gentle breeze.
I sat out on the back deck to eat my lunch and then read for a while.
This was my view, not bad today.

Yesterday I had a bits and pieces day, could not settle on one thing, kind of squirrel like!!
I have made some VERY small half square triangles, Ingrid challenged me to make something with small pieces, way out of my comfort zone here!!

I had a play with some EPP jewel shapes, I had seen some being made on Instagram and decided to have a go, like I need another project at the moment!! They make a 6 inch heart shape so should go together reasonably quickly.

Here is the pile of half square triangles

So far only one trimmed to size, my job for this afternoon is to trim the rest, then figure out how to get them safely under the machine.
Wish me luck.
Happy stitching.

Back on air

Well here I am back home, recovering and taking life slowly. Thank you everyone for your best wishes and concern as I am recovering. Your compassion means a lot to me.
I have read all the library books I have plus one that has been waiting attention for a while, the top one, the things that happen in one day in a vets life. Sadly I can't return or get any more library books as the library has closed for a month.

I went to the book shelf and decided to read these books again, which resulted in me sending Ingrid a challenge, to make the mini quilt from the Caroline Challenge Book. The quilt is based on a Frame Quilt made by a squatter/farmers wife, from the Western District of Victoria,  back in the 1850's.

This is the picture on the front of the book.

As I love bright colours, I decided to make my centre block from hexies I have left over from my Grandmothers Garden quilt. Ingrid found much clearer instructions on the internet, so we are going to make one frame a week, planning to finish on May 2nd!! I am going to see if I can pinch a photo of Ingrid's centre block from Instagram.
Isn't that a beautiful block?

I have been working on the puzzle a little each day, there are so many faces and so much detail in this puzzle!

These sunflowers from Ingrid brightened up my stay in hospital.
I have received some beautiful flowers over the last week, some chased me home from hospital. I should have taken photos a bit sooner

The lilies smell beautiful

These are from Jenny in NZ, the buds are still opening up.
I have received a wonderful care package from Pamela over at Hokkaido Kudasai blog. It had a beautiful Mt Fuji postcard, a lovely beaded fob Pamela has made, I have not take a good photo of that, a good luck Daruma  fob and  Minion fob for me to make. Thank you Pamela for thinking of me, it is very much appreciated.
I think I might go have a cuppa and do some more jigsaw puzzle.

Happy stitching.

This and that

Yesterday I decided to make another EPP carry bag with the wonderful fabric Susan sent me.
chowchows on the outside

and on the inside. Lots of bags to hold the fabric and

I got to the bottom of the box of toilet paper and found the most important roll!!

Down in the garden the birds/fruit bats/possums have been at the figs

munching away at the nearly ripe ones

The laundry washing bags are protecting some of the nearly ripe fruit. This afternoon Ingrid and I went out and picked a bowl full of nearly ready figs, I can see some fig and ginger jam coming soon.

The tram lady is finally on the wall.

I have done the quilting I am going to do on this quilt, next to trim the blue edges off and maybe use that for the binding. We shall see.
Happy stitching.

FNWF results

I had a lovely evening doing a few different things
These bit of fabric were in a heap on the sewing table, they have been stamped

and cut out ready to be sewn together one day.

I cut and glued all except 12 of the epp kites for an Old time Kaleidoscope block, I stopped as the pizza arrived and then Endeavour was on the tv.

This morning I cut and glued the last 12 kits shapes, one set took ages to get the lines lined up, but they are ready for sewing now.

Last night I got another two rows sewed onto the knitted blanket, three more to go. This blanket will go to KOGO

This morning there is a stew on the crock pot and this shepherds pie has just come out of the oven, doing a bit of preparation and getting meals into the freezer.
If you pop over to Cheryll's blog to see what the other Friday Nighters got up to.
Thank you Cheryll for being our hostess.

FNWF

Tonight is Friday night with friends, hosted by Cheryll, lots of friends joining together and have a sewing fest.
I am starting early this afternoon...well when I say early it is nearly 3pm already!
Some tidying has happened in the sewing room

Ingrid and I have been following Pat Sloans Crazy March month prompts, The prompt yesterday was to tidy something up...great motivation for me!! So the sewing table got some attention, a part finished project was packed away, and the dust was removed!! I think seeds could have been grown in the dust!!

This morning I laid out and cut batting and backing for three quilt tops I have been given

Oops that is a bit sideways!! These three quilts are to go to the oncology ward. They have now gone to Joan for quilting.

Not super tidy but much better than it was.
I am off now to start FNWF even if it is the afternoon.
Happy stitching.
