Tiki tour day 5

Today was supposed to be straight driving from Lake Cargelligo to Baradine, but we saw water towers on the way that needed our attention!

The next water tower, will have to ask Raewyn where it was - Tottenham is the name of the town.

The this one at Nevertire

At Nevertire and featured cotton, wheat and sheep. We saw acres of cotton in the fields, genetically modified (naturally)  we were told to grow a shorter plant, easier for the machines to pick and the seed is blue which means no weeds grow near them.

Tiki tour back

We have been heading back down south via some Adventure Labs

We went to the Dubbo Botanic Gardens for the Adventure Lab and started in the Japanese garden

Then off to the dry garden

Back thru the Japanese garden to the Sensory garden

We got a cuppa from Press as recommended by Kylie then went to the Yummy Yarn shop also recommended by Kylie, some spending happened there 🤭

Then off we went to Forbes to finish an Ad Lab there

The last place was at the war memorial.

The view was stunning.

We continued on our way, our trip was a little longer as the navigator (me) took a wrong turning and we had to navigate our way back to where we were supposed to be

The Tiki tour continues

Yesterday we left home and headed towards Tullamarine and then up the Hume Highway. 

We had a quick stop at a road side place and found a cache and then looked at the memorial there

Originally there were over 2500 gum trees planted along the road here to commemorate those lost in WW2

Next stop Jerilderie, to follow the Ned Kelly trail

From here we drove on to Narrandera and after checking in at the motel went to do an Adventure Lab at the cemetery

We found all the graves we needed to find and read some interesting facts about people and then had to find the Chinese section way over in a corner by themselves

That made me sad, but I guess that was life back in the 1800's. The Chinese were employed by local squatters to clear land and One Manager observed “…they do work white man could not be got to do…” On just one job a Chinese gang cleared 24,300 hectares of more than 3 million trees.

This tree was grown from a pine cone from the pine at Lone Pine at Gallipoli . 

And then we watched the sun go down. A very happy and pleasurable day.

More touring tomorrow as we head to Gilgandra.

Tiki tour

The car is packed and I have picked up Raewyn from the airport and we have travelled from Melbourne to Benalla. From there we headed north and found four silos on our way.

leaving Benealla we stopped for a look at this beautiful sculpture 

This was created by several different artists.

Our first Silo was in Goorambat

The painting was beautiful.

We found a little Cafe down the road, the loos were painted too

How good is this. 

From there we went to the next Silo at Devenish

This one remembers nurses in the wars

and the Lighthorse.

this building was at the back of the pub.

Then we moved onto St James, the home of the man who started Coles supermarkets, his original store is still in the town.

There was a series of Adventure Labs along this run of silos, but in Devenish the WiFi wasn't working for me, so we have a gap in the answers.

From here we went on to Tungemah

The information centre was open and they had a gift shop so we paid them a visit and got some goodies, the outside was also painted by the same artist who did the silos

She also did a painting at the pub
