Fixed Up!

The Doing the Rounds has been unsewn (only 8 circles thank goodness!!) and resewn and eagle eyed Ondrea spotted one rosette was missing, well now that BOM#3 has arrived I have the extra bit of material Sandy kindly sent, the missing hexie has been replaced and rosette is in place.

Today I have been in to Geelong to do Guild stuff, we visited the local politician to see if we could get some financial help with the Rickie Tims event we have later in the year....we have more information to take back to the committee and decisions to make now. They made us very welcome though.
Later this afternoon Cheryl (Guild President) and I went to the Bluebird Foundation to drop off the Book Reading Quilts

Bron and Lucy were very happy to receive them...discussion was happening over which quilts were going where a they work at different venues.

They are lovely ladies and have invited us to go along to one of their sessions next term.
When I got home this amazing parcel was waiting for me on the kitchen bench

Love a surprise parcel, and isn't it beautifully decorated!

Lots of beautiful goodies inside from Julie of Threadbare Cottage. Handmade soap, Kiwiana fat quarters, hand knitted dish cloths, hand made card, tea towel with a beautiful message about dogs on it, a reminder list with a Chow on it and a lovely hand painted heart with the message  "Life is a patchwork of Friendship". Julie helped me out by homing some of my mothers crystal and linen bits, I was so happy  they were going to a loving home and this is Julie's thank you!.
Thank you very much Julie, you have spoilt me!

Love the Chowchow!! The lost on the cover here sound very familiar!!
I had better run, hubby is wanting dinner and I need to rescue it from the oven.
Cheers to wonderful friends.

Yesterday

I collected the Cat Book Reading quilt from Joan at Faraway Quilts..she very kindly did the quilting for me Saturday morning, she didn't want me putting the moz on her machine!!
It has come up really well. Very happy.

Another Book reading quilt got some very basic quilting yesterday

the Cats got some binding..I put some furniture fabric on the back of this quilt..$4.00 on special at Lincraft, it has made the quilt heavy, but will be great for going on the floor, as it needs to do.

today I am set up for some serious binding sewing...have some sustenance...

which has been sussed out by the Supervisor...sigh...now I have to share!!
Happy sewing.

Yet another catch up

I have been avoiding the computer for a few days, I have had to do paper work for my mother so once that is done I head off. But some sewing has been happening here
I have finished the binding on this Blanket of Love..it has gone off in the mail to Cheryll, who gathers them up and then delivers them to hospitals in her area.

It was a beautiful day yesterday

the tide was out but it was still great being near the sea

I was working on getting the next circle on Doing the Rounds, all was going well until one wouldn't sit flat..

Yes, I had put it on back to front!! So some unsewing had to happen...

a few more circles have joined the family

We had visitors yesterday, the people we bought the house from here and the people they bought the house from back in 2001, the other couple bought this house in 1988, they brought along photos to show us the changes they made to the house. We had a great visit. I decided to make a cake...bit of a challenge for  me! I had lots of plums in the freezer so got out two containers of stewed plums, by the time I had taken out pips and searched for more pips, the plums were mashed, so they got mixed in with the batter and sprinkled with coconut

and it came out ok! Eben hubby went back for seconds...that is saying something!!

three Book Reading quilts are waiting for their labels and they are done, one more was delivered to the quilter yesterday, she has offered to quilt for me as she says I puit the moz on her machine!! On the way back I went to find a geocache

and found this view

some of the locals watched what I was doing...

and finally, this is where I am up to with Doing the Rounds, it needs the seam trimmed back and a good iron, then I am hoping it will sit flat...fingers crossed!!
I am off now, there is heavy rain and thunder and lightening happening here, very welcome for the garden!
Happy stitching.

Busy day

I am wondering if chatting on the phone for an hour constitutes a busy day?? It feels like it when I notice the time is nearly 5pm and I an wondering what I have done today! I had morning tea with some lovely ladies over at Van Loons nursery, they have a wonderful nursery and great cafe...I have the gf cheescake for later in the fridge!! After that I went over to Portarlington and quilted a quilt for the book reading group, I had some problems with the tension again, but no unpicking thank goodness.
I had planned to trim and bind this afternoon, but we all know what happens to the best laid plans!!
I have also finished another three little hexies for the Doing the Rounds quilt
I am linking up with Anthea over at Hibiscus stitches to celebrate all things EPP

I think I am nearly ready to add them all to their background...I need to get a move on as the next months BOM will be here before I know it!
After sewing at St Leonards yesterday I rode my bike homewards in a round about direction and found two new geocaches..it was about a 4km ride...this road was bumpy but no cars which was wonderful!
I had better go and get some trimming done.
Happy sewing.

Hot days

The last few days have been hot and humid...we are hanging out for a cool change!!
Yesterday I did some quilting on another book reading quilt, put together by Bronwyn from the Guild,
one side is a little wonky but hopefully it will settle down once its binding is on.

the centre hexie for Doing the Rounds, has been pinned to the centre fabric, ready to applique
but a scary thing happened today....

BOM number two arrived!! I had better get my skates on!!
Happy sewing.

At home

I have had an early morning walk along the beach

The supervisor got a lot of attention from the boys who visited over the weekend...he was playing I am not interested here but listening all the time!!
Yesterday I went over to Portarlington in the afternoon

and did some quilting on a lovely ladies machine. it did not go smoothly, the machine did not like the cotton I took over, so it kept breaking. We changed over to another thread and then the tension went wonky...so it was a challenge.....was not happy having to unpick a row of quilting!!!

I had supervision by young Mitsy, isn't that a beautiful face!

another hexie is complete, one is out of whack, but I am not doing any unsewing!!

and today I need to do some trimming and binding on this book reading quilt.
Lots to do today so I had better get going.
Happy sewing.

Heatwave

It has been very hot here the last few days, we were supposed to have had a cool change around 4pm this afternoon, the breeze did swing around to the south but the sun is still very hot! So what better to do on days like these but stay inside and sew!!
I worked on some of the book reading quilt blocks

Yesterday I got a row finished and today

the quilt top is finished...the blues were not supposed to line up like that, they were supposed to be random, but random and I do not seem to get along to well!!

over the last few nights a few more circles have been finished.
Yesterday hubby told me he had fixed the broken oar and it would not break again....mmmm...
not much rowing activity happening here! The broom stick/oar handle broke just after I took this photo

that tiny speck in the distance is me having a swim!Lol!!
and relaxing under a shady tree

this afternoon I have been working on the Christmas swap blocks from the Bellarine Quilters, I had to trim some blocks down, and add strips to some to make them bigger (mine included)...now I need to figure out how to make little squares of colour for the sashings that go across the quilt, I am sure there is a name for them, I just can't remember it!! Better go look in a book!
On facebook a couple of days ago there was a zucchini recipe that had no flour so I thought I would give it a try, and typical of me, no recipe...it was a bit runny at first
but it cooked up ok, even hubby said it tasted surprisingly good!! Wow!!
It had a zucchini, eggs, garlic, lots of cheese, Italian herbs and I put in some spring onion, just 'cos I could!! Might try it again one day.
Hoping for a cooler day tomorrow.
I had better go and sort some dinner
Happy sewing

Today

was supposed to be the day I cut more orange fabric and continued on with the book reading quilt, but you can see I got distracted! I have had this panel hanging about for weeks, so today I cut the strips and sewed them on and we have another book reading quilt top.

As the weather was so good the sheets etc plus the quilt off our bed got a wash and to hang in the sun today.

Hubby decided today was the  day for the big launch of the present he got me for Christmas....my own rowing boat...so we pumped it up...

carried it down to the beach and off we went

coordination is not so good

might be getting the hang of it, actually it is very peaceful just floating about!!

hubby went out for a turn, rowed and floated about

and then broke one oar..mmmmm.....he promises to fix it tomorrow! So i had a swim and sit in the sun instead.

Back home the washing needed to be brought in, the Supervisor came to "help"

we have some plums on the tree but the birds have had the best feed as I wasn't here to put the net over the top.

I have had these strips of fabric on my sewing desk for months, they came off another project, I thought they might be good for the little stars, so today stuck on the templates and cut some out, have more to do while watching tv tonight.
I had better go and rescue the pasta for dinner!
Happy sewing.
