The last few days

I have been getting ready to go on retreat to Woodend. But I have also been taking the supervisor for a walk each morning too, is good for both of us!!
Friday was a beautiful day, we had a walk at Indented Head

followed by a swim (and then a bath for Tupai...he was NOT impressed!!)

we saw a pelican sitting on a rock watching the world go by
back home I knuckled down and got some things organised

angels for the Christmas Row by Row......I then realised I forgot something important!! Their wings!! Duh!!!

Friday night I stitched together a hexagon

the wings are on now! Phew!!

and as I am not starting anything new......I am playing with these Barb Smith buttons!!

some  snow people are taking shape for the Christmas row by row

I am hoping they will look like they are being seen thru a window when I have finished, we shall see!

I have finished the tea cup bears into their hexie shapes, now to join them together, another lovely pattern from Michelle Ridgway.

today the weather is not so good, we have had some rain here but not much, it seems to be more towards the city

I thought this was a rock until I had a closer look, isn't nature clever!!I had better be off and get some things done, like house cleaning, not my most favourite job I must admit!!
Happy sewing.

FNWF update

I was sewing away last night and hubby was organising dinner, his night to cook, which means he orders in pizza, only to ring and find they had run out of gluten free bases!!  No pizza for me, so we decided to have fish and chips instead!! Meant I had to go and get it but at least I didn't have to cook. I did manage to get quite a lot done so I was a happy sewer!
some stitches were done on the hexie quilt

I made one more New Hexagon block, this project has been sadly neglected!

and the binding and hanging sleeve are on the wall hanging...just need to stitch down the sleeve edge. Wobbled off to bed at 11.15pm!!! Happy but tired!!
You can see what the other FNWF'ers did by visiting the lovely hostess Cheryll.
Today I have been to a UFO day at Port Arlington, soup and rolls were supplied for lunch and much chatting and sewing happened
Jill working on her clamshells carefully!!

Judy and Carleen sewing away

Barbara was working on her beautiful quilt...

with the most beautiful Japanese fabrics
it took me from 10.30 until 2pm to make this star block, not perfect but I am happy with it, it will go with the other Star blocks I have made...it is called the Pinwheel Star, there was quite a lot of unsewing today!!!

I also joined a challenge from the Gisborne Quilters ...we were given a country and had to come up with a quilt, could be from postcard to one meter square... the country I was given was Finland. So after much pondering I decided to draw in chalk on the purple fabric, paint in some areas and then free motion quilt...this represents the mountains and the Northern lights.
Happy sewing.

Catch up and FNSI

I have had a busy week this week and nearly missed FNSI which was last night
but I did manage to get some sewing done
I had a play with some yellow hexies

and finished another hexie block for the New Hexagon Quilt.
Sandra, a friend from NZ, who now lives in Singapore came to stay for a night so we explored the bollards in Geelong and walked from one end to the other and back

we have perfected the art of the "selfie" after some very strange photos!! Sandra walks 15,000 steps a day to keep fitand we managed to meet that target by the days end.
Thursday we went to Queenscliffe and Port Lonsdale, did some caching, and then went to Jirralinga Wildlife Park in Barwon Heads
we got to pat a koala and wombat...

in fact it was fantastic for Sandra as she saw nearly all the Australian animals in one place, she was very excited!!
Then yesterday we had a visit from the lovely Ondrea and her hubby...the men folk disappeared into the man cave and we had a wonderful time talking and exchanging ideas..Ondrea brought me a beautiful present
a beautiful pincushion to add to my collection and a wash cloth and soap...thank you Ondrea, that was very nice of you and I love them!!

anda bag of fabric that Ondrea no longer wants...I have used some of the yellow for the hexies already! Perfect timing Ondrea.
Today I am off to Guild meeting so had better get my skates on!!
Happy sewing.

Word photo challenge and EPP link up

It is that time of the week again, actually I think I am late, but better late than never!! The word for this week is THANKFUL.
There are many things in my life I am THANKFUL for, but I decided on the two sets of cards I keep in the sewing room...I take a few minutes each day to choose a new card ,  read them and think about what each says.
You can see the other THANKFUL photos over at alshasspace...oops the new word is up so I must be late!!! No worries I am THANKFUL I made this one!

I also was at the Seachange group sewing morning this morning and saw the dinosaur puppet made by one of the ladies there in a class they had recently...
how cute is that??? It is staying at her home until she knows the grand sons look after it!
I did some sewing
a new hexagon quilt block underway, two and a half seams to go!! T forgot it was EPP link up over at Anthea's today...so am linking up at Hibiscus Stitches....check out the EPP beauties over there.
Happy sewing.

Catch up

Last Thursday we went into Melbourne, hubby had to go to St Vincent's for blood tests, then he wandered off to go to hobby shops, and me being a good girl resisted a visit to Luccellos and went geocaching instead!! I ended up in China town as my gps wouldn't tune in properly, no doubt because I was in between buildings...I did wander up one stinky alley way, drawn in by the paintings on the walls
this was at the back of a carpark in an empty space

this was up the stinky alley way, out the back of the Chinese restaurants, just love the eyes....

another impressive painting
I sat outside the Chinese museum for a while, spoke to Adam who said he wasn't coming in to the city that evening and then the gps fired up...and guess what there was a cache 104 m from me!! So off I went, up the alley way behind two blokes...usually I would be more cautious but I knew straight away they were doing the same thing as me!!
One of the found the cache, magnetically attached to a metal door...you had to reach in underneath and it had dirt stuck to the lid and wood shavings and metal scourers attached at each end...really made you wonder what you were touching!!Lol!! We had a chat, signed the log and then went on our separate ways.I was supposed to meet hubby at 5.30..at 5.45 I went to the car to see if I had the message wrong and he was at the car...nope.....back to the lift entrance and waited some more...at 6pm he turned up, he got lost in Melbourne Central and couldn't find me!!! I had to chuckle as usually it is me that gets lost!! We jumped in the car and went to look for a parking spot near the Sherlock Holmes....not such a bright idea at 6pm on St Patricks Day!!! Eventually we fluked a parking meter, parked and wandered to the pub. We met hubby's sister, her husband, daughter and son and his partner and had a great evening with them. Shane was busy working behind the bar.
our beautiful niece Tessa..

the Hubble family...

a Hubble and a hubby

myself and Ellen...
Shane joined us for his very quikc dinner break!!

On Sunday morning I made two blocks for Aussie Heros...they are making several quilts for the chapel in Kabul
mine were purple (surprise!!) and wonky log cabins. I have decided I do wonky very well!! lol!!
I am off now to trace off another two New Hexagon blocks while the spag bol sauce cooks away
I have decided to change to the colours so am off to explore my stash!!I didn't mean to have waffled on so long seem to have been a bit carried away!!!
Happy sewing.

A finish and a new beginning

Yesterday I finished the latest block for the New Hegagon quilt...fixed up my woops!!
and today Mary and Jill came over and helped me put together fabrics for a Dresden plate...something I haven't made before. Twenty of us at the Port Arlington group have been asked to make a plate, we have been given two fabrics and use our stash for the rest.  Most of this fabric is from Mary and Jill, they wouldn't let me use batiks!!! All the plates will be put together in a quilt, and that will be the raffle quilt at the Port quilt show in November this year.
this will be a very summery block! Right I am off to do some more work on the Aussie Hero quilt.
Happy sewing.
