Woo hoo!! Two finishes.

I am pleased to say the Aussie hero quilt is finished, label done, letter written and it is all boxed up ready to got o the PO tomorrow! I have also added eyes to the turtles since this photo!!

I rode my bike down to sewing this morning, it was cold but a beautiful clear day.

Doing the Rounds is finished...well nearly, the binding is done! The hanging sleeve is awaiting some hand sewing and the label is still not done, but I am calling it finished .
Last night two more sisters were created, I was in a rush so made some silly mistakes and unsewing had to be done, but they are ok now, two New Zealand sisters.
I am off to tidy the kitchen bench before dinner cooking starts.
Happy stitching.

Catching up

Where do the days go?? The weeks just seem to fly by!
the Supervisor and I went for a walk one morning and it was cloudy and gray

not much sun and the tide was out

lots of birds were cleaning , drying and resting

heaps of them!!

It must be moulting time for these crabs once again as the beach was covered with them, some whole some not.

This heron was looking for a snack

back home I found a heap of mushrooms in the garden.

Yep more pelicans, I just love them. I went for a walk to the shops and back yesterday and these guys were all preening and cleaning waiting for the fishing people to come in I think.

The storm water pipe was running water into the lagoon, which was flowing out into the bay, the seagulls were having a wonderful time bathing and drinking in the not so salty water.

Couldn't help myself, the water was so calm and the reflections good. I had spent most of the day quilting the Aussie Hero quilt, so it was goods to get out in the fresh air for a walk in the sunshine You wouldn't believe that we had had a sea fog earlier in the day! I just have to write a letter to go with the quilt, write on the label and it can go in the post.
So because I had been good, after sewing group today

I made a purple sister!! So happy with her.
I had been get dome dinner sorted I suppose, it is so tempting to make another block!!
Maybe just cut one.......
Happy stitching.

Distracted

Today I have finished off all the endy threads on the Aussie hero quilt, made another shark and sewn it on, put together backing
and then got distracted by something I had seen on another blog, and sadly I can't find it again!! (the blog that is)  I just remembered it was Karen over at KaHolly.  But,

the block is called International Sisters and was drafted  by Pretti of Sew Pretti Quilts. This block appealed to me so off to the sewing room I went and so far I have one lady in Aboriginal fabric, one in fabric from Hawaii and one in Japanese fabric. So far I have used scraps. I am going to search out some of the fabric I got in Samoa and make a Samoan lady next, then one from NZ. Yes I am completely distracted.
Happy sewing.

A visit, a birthday, a finish.

The galahs were busy at the bird box n the weekend, I notice they have made holes in the bottom of the box now.
On Sunday hubby and I went over tot he nature reserve in Ocean Grove to have a walk and look for caches

We saw several grass trees

Wallabies in the trees. this one was eating the leaves from a small gum tree

that furry lump is another wallaby

this one was keeping an eye on us

we saw this plant on the edge of the path, I was surprised to see this as I think it is an insect eating plant and I thought they needed a lot of water to grow, maybe it has taken off since we have had rain. We found all the caches we were looking for too, bonus!!

One little hibiscus plant in the garden had a flower bigger than the plant!

These lovely ladies came for lunch yesterday and brought lunch with them! It was Ingrid's birthday and Kim was visiting from Tassie. Jill came over too but I didn't think to get a photo early enough.

The clamshells are finished and made into a journal cover for Ingrid.

I was very happy I got it finished in time and managed to surprise Ingrid.

I also made Ingrid and Kim a mug carrier each, there was lots of secret sewing happening over the weekend!

Yesterday late afternoon we had a heavy rain shower, the galahs seemed to enjoy the rain and I enjoyed seeing the rainbow!

A  but fuzzy but the colours looked so good in the late afternoon sun.
I have sewing group at St Leonards this morning so I had better get my skates on!
Have a great day.

This and that

The Supervisor and I had a lovely walk along the beach yesterday
we noticed some fungi coming up

the tide was very high and the sun shining, and yes it was very windy but still very pleasant

more fungi
Later in the morning I went over to Portarlington to deliver some quilts to Joan of Faraway Quilts. Joan very kindly quilts the hospital quilts for me. After visiting Joan I went to Clifton Springs to look for a geocache

I am standing on a look out taking this photo and underneath is a cache. I have been here three times and happily, yesterday I finally found it!

You can see the supports of an old wharf that used to be here.

The fish and turtles are all ironed on and ready to be sewn.

Two nights ago I finished another Old Time Kaleidoscope block, happy smiles here!

Hubby has been weeding and mulching the front garden, we have one rose there that is flowering like mad, the perfume of the flowers is beautiful.

I had a lovely surprise in the mail from Ingrid, gorgeous fish fabric, I might use this on the back of the current Aussie Hero quilt.
Lots to do today so I had better get going.
Happy stitching.

Out and about

Yesterday when part of the family were visiting we went for a drive looking for photos take, and of course I had to sneak in a geocache!!
We stopped at the end of Swan Bay Road, off they go into the soggy beach area

The birds all took of fairly quickly!

This pelican was grooming off in the distance

Something of interest out there.

Now we are in Point Lonsdale, we climbed up a path to the top of the sand hills, yep there was a cache up there...I didn't get a photo of the ocean as I was too busy searching and by the time I found it the (big) kids had had enough!!

We went down to the jetty, there were huge clouds appearing over the horizon, luckily no rain!

The light house is a working light house.
Today I have been into Geelong for the car to have a service, me to do some messages and then home.
The turtles are together, just waiting to be positioned on the quilt.

I have finally sewn the binding on the Doing the Rounds Quilt, after a gentle nudge from Leeanne, I am happy to say I have even started the hand sewing!!

Just a little reminder of the beautiful quilting Leeanne has done on the quilt.
Off to sort some dinner now.
Happy stitching.
